View Full Version : Brockville Dive report

I did my first Brockville dive last night. Wow, I can't believe I didn't head out there sooner. The only downside of the whole trip was the traffic on the way up :-) Anyone going to brockville from Ottawa, give yourself plenty of time, the 401 is down to one lane just before the Brockville exit, and the exit itself was closed last night for re-paving. Anyway, as I was saying, what an awesome dive location. Airmeiser, Artw, JimC, his wife and I all went on the little diver charter. We left port a little after six and made our way out to the Lilly Parsons (sic?). The water was 70+ and the vis somewhere between 75 and 100ft. Anyway we started out exploring the Lilly, spent maybe 5-10 min there and then proceeded with the drift portion of the dive. Unbelievable!!! At 80ft we just coasted along in a 2-3 knot current along the wall and managed to get in a good 25 minute drift (not including the time spent at the Lilly). All-in-all a wonderfully lazy dive. After our safty stop we popped up and the boat came along an picked us up. This was just an incredable experience for me and I can't wait to go back. To all the divers involved, great job! Art and his friend were great divers to buddy with, and Airmieser is always a great buddy (we've done many dives together).
On a side note, for anyone interested, Artw and I will be doing lock21 over in Morrisburg tonight, all are welcome :-)

Glad to hear that you enjoyed you diving here. Make sure you check out the Muskie on your next trip as you will not believe the marine life that is located on this wreck.
We who live in Brockville just don't realize how good we have it here with the best fresh water wreck diving in the world!

Someone was running something that was sticking logs in / and /var. Then they went on vaycay and didn't tell me. In single user, fsck'ing the disks and clearing space to bring the box back, /usr got munched. Box is dead, disk is dead. Data was on the other drive (TFG).
Slapping the data drive into a new machine, but there is no way the project is getting finished by tomorrow morning. :)

Taz22, no doubt that was one hell of a dive and will be checking out all the great locations there over the next month :-)
If yer up for hosting I'll be there.
TomR, you are right. I haven't done any diving in Kingston yet but I've heard so much about it. I really want to try out the wolf islander, and if your comment is an invite I'm there anytime!

Thank -->insert higher power of choice here<-- for that. Although if dude is using root as a storage bin, he/she should be taken out back and beaten. What was he/she some sort of M$ flunky? :D

Kingston = Great viz, no current but thermocline. I've done the Munson and the Wolf. For us thermally challenged divers with no drysuit I'll stick to the river thanks.;)

How cold was it?
Drysuits are for girls :out:
...now watch and see the reactions (from both the girls and the drysuit crowd)

I have dove in the greater Kingston area but you have those darn thermoclines. I like my temp at depth to be almost what it is at the surface....I'll clarify and say the best and warmest fresh water wreck diving in the world!!:D

Hey
you can't let a little cold keep you from diving...I have been diving wet in lake Ontario for 2 years , I dive from May to Nov. Munson included .
This time of year the water temp on many of the wrecks is a balmy 64 degrees....a few of the deep ones do stay about 50 ... I get cold.....but I would never give up a dive !!!
Hi
Miss Vinnie , so you are a drysuit girl now eh?
see ya ...i gotta go Diving in Wetsuit!!!!!:D :) :out:

Great time indeed!
My first boat dive, what a treat! No broken ankles on the walk in...no 7 lbs of mud to be washed off the gear at home...sweet.
Next time I'll allow more time for the traffic so I can actually pack my gear into ONE bag as opposed to sprinting down the dock at 5:59 with 3 bags, a tank, and weight belt, leaving my cooler in the car....
Here's to the next one!
Matt.

No way I'd miss it! I managed to shave 4lbs off my belt this weekend at the quarry so I'm set. Not to self, leave early! That 401 congestion's no fun. Do you guys want to setup a car pool?

DR also try moving 4 pounds from your weightbelt to your BC strap. You will see a world of difference.

Ya I remember you saying that. I'll try it out this week. I can imagine that will help my trim alot. I've been watching this .avi I found of a dude doing the frog kick. I really gotta practice that, but it should be a lot easier with less weight/better trim.
BTW did anyone else get sucker'd into watching that redwater movie on TBS?? There's two hours of my life I'll never get back...

I did the tank strap trick. Moved 4lbs to the straps. Holy crap what a difference!! That coupled with being able to move my belt higher really worked wonders... My legs don't sink anymore!! I was able to float around and managed to get in a few frog kicks (that still needs a lot of work).
See ya'll tonight :-)
