I have a Sherwood Freedom BC. The ditchable integrated weights are only held on by velcro. The updated model of this BC now uses a clip system. The rest of the BC is the same. A LDS recommend that I could sew in clips to hold the weights, instead of relying solely on the velcro. I never thought about this before, until I lost a weight this weekend while diving.
Any ideas? :)
I have done a search on this subject, and I couldnt find any relevant information.

standard clips are segnificantly harder to open, espetualy if your wearing gloves. whatever you do, make sure you can open it fast even if its dark, and make sure you buddy can do the same.
I lost a balance weight pocet at some stage, and made myself a "surelock" like system - took a clip, added a SS wire (from my bicycle's old breakes :-)) that connects the two wings of the insert part, in such a way that when the wire was pulled, the wings would by push inward, and the clip would open. this worked well, and could be easily removed with one hand very much like the original velcro only option. but I've tryed to work with the clip alon, and it was hard to open it (it was a 2" mega-clip). so be carefull.

I got a look at the new Oceanic (Chute 3 I think) it's got plastic clips/velcro combo, but the clips are peculiar in that enough pressure will cause them to release. Ie a good jerk underwater and you've dumped em, don't know how well they'll hold up but it was certainly a unique clip.
