Bringin the family up to Tahoe to do a couple dives next weekend Aug 7/8.

Does anyone know if any local shops are doing any type of dive along trip then?

If not, is there anyplace to get air at tahoe.

Any recommendations for a decent/inexpensive hotel in the area?

Thanks much

There are no dive shops at the lake proper. The closest are in Reno, or, Carson City. Be aware there are a couple of mountain passes, with significant elevation gain; how much you worry about these passes would depend on the profile you dive.

Strictly Scuba, in Carson City, operates a dive boat at the lake, and can hit the "signature dives" such as Rubicon Wall, or the sunken barges in Emerald Bay, quite easily. The folks from Strictly are very nice, and you'll have a good time with them. Other than that, there's not much in the way of organized dive trips by the local shops (excepting classes, of course).

The weekend you've chosen is one that usually has no available rooms, in any hotel, in Reno. Really. Zero. It's the weekend for Hot August Nights, a huge 1950's style car show that brings spectators from across the US. Sorry, no recommendations for where to stay at the lake, as we usually point folks to one of the in-town hotel/casinos, since the rooms are loss leaders.

Hope this helps!

All the best, James

Thanks, I was wondering why all the hotels were booked. Worst case we'll take a tent and stay by the water.

I will be diving with my 11 yr old. Last year we went to Sand Harbor and had a nice easy shallow dive. I'm looking for something in the < 40' range that's interesting. Not looking for tours or anything, just walk in from the shore.

Any suggestions?

I have done a couple of sites there and get bored pretty quick. Rubicon Wall is one of my favorites, but being a wall might not be appropriate for someone that does not have excellent buoyancy skills.

The barge is probably one of the most interesting things at the lake, but I have yet to see it. My boat is a two stroke and I am not sure where to launch a kayak or scooter for easy access.

Yes, I'm old friends with Mr. Google. I appreciate the links, but I'm just looking for opinions from SB members.

While I'd love to do the wall, I don't think I'll take my 11 yr old there just yet :p. Other than that, what sites did you hit and would they be a good place to take my kid?
