View Full Version : Computer with Digital Compass?

I am in the market for a dive computer. I am a recreational diver one to two dive vacations a year (warm water) and a handful of dives at home (cold water - New England). I've been diving for just about three years and have done about 70 dives. I've read a bunch of comments on different computer suggestions, but would still be interested in any recommendations.
I want something fairly easy to use and at the mid-price range. I am currently looking at the Sherwood Wisdom 2 or the Mares Puck Air, but am open to suggestions. My other question is, what has your experience been with computers with an integrated digital compass (I know neither of those two I mentioned have a digital compass)? Any pros or cons? Is it worth the extra money?

For an intergrated digital compass I would suggest the Galileo Luna. The compass is a FULL tilt and displays most of your dive information at the same time.

Was talking to my buddy who has a Suunto Vyper Air - his comment was that the compass function seems to use lots of battery at least compared to his older Cobra.....
Maybe others can comment on this, as I was thinking of a Vyper Air myself....

Zeagle N2ition 3 has a digital compass and be had at a great price; $500-$600. Scuba Lab really liked it and thought it was a best buy for 2009.
Its not air integrated, so you would need an SPG. But that's the way I would go anyway. I'm not a big fan of air integrated unless its a console.

I like the compass on the Suunto Cobra III unit. Fairly easy to use, and I haven't noticed the battery drain that was mentioned. I use the compass a lot in New England waters.

I like the AI computers, but always have an SPG anyway... They make it nice for dead nuts accurate SAC readings as well as estimated total bottom times. Cheating in a way since you should be able to approximate on the fly, but handy to have when it gets cold and the noggin isn't working quite up to full speed
