So after going abalone diving last weekend at Sea Ranch (4 hours from where I live :( ) I realized that there seems to be an abundance of free food just for the taking in our oceans. I was wondering if anyone here knows or dives for their food often in NorCal. I'm flipping through the pages of the Fish and Game regulations and I'm drooling at all the shellfish available for picking.

Now I just need to know where I can gather these things for a big pot of yum.

I'd like to stick with shellfish for now and skip the fish, as that requires extra investment like spear guns and up close and personal killing (not there yet).

Any good locations for clams, snails, abalone, scallops, geoduck, periwinkle, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, crawfish, shrimp, and other things? I'm thinking of just bringing a net with me and gathering food on a dive.
