Help finding an O=Ring for PT 010

I have an older Olympus that I just refuse to stop using, but the O-Ring for it has seen better days, it still seals, but I am getting a little worried about it. The case is a Pt 010 and I can't seem to find a replacement O-Ring anywhere, does anyone know what might fit in it's place? Thanks for the help

I feel your pain and concern. Here is what I had to do. Talk to your LDS and find where they buy rings in bulk. That supplier should be able to match your ring's size. There will probably be a minimum order giving you enough rings for the rest of your life. One other issue is that Oly used silicon rings of a very strange metric size. You can find the size, but not in silicon. I had to get buna rings which are much harder for my 020 housing

I gather there're also online sites for all things o-ring, once you know the dimensions. Composition is probably not critical, as driftwood noted, though I'd assume you'd not want a high durometer hardness. You might also try calling the Oly service department and ask if the o-ring was the same in any of their more recent cases.

And we have a Winner! That is the critical step that needs to be done by a pro. I should have made that a lot bigger issue in my original post.

Oly uses some very oddly sized rings. You have to take the ring in to be measured and tested for hardness. Even money that Oly used silicon and that is a very tough match, very soft rings. Buna and viton are much harder, but the physics work out that you get the same sealing power. Just a lot less forgiveness for mistakes in cleaning the rings and seats. In addition, I don't store my housing closed due to the increased hardness of the buna rings.

I usually just plop the o-ring down on the counter as ask for 'some of those' - then they can measure and bring out a selection for comparison. If I had to find a rare one over the internet, I'd take a shot at using a micrometer and ruler to measure the size... and test the case before taking the camera under!

Ran across this somewhat old thread in researching the PT-010 housing. There is currently a PT-010 housing with spare gasket, weight and silicone on E-bay at $20 plus $17 shipping. If you truly don't ever want to give up this setup it might be worth it to have a spare. Here's the item number. Just go to e-bay and plug in this number in the search block.

I've used my housing for years now too and it's never failed me. I just recently bought a Canon G-11 and am in the process of shopping for the housing for it. I'll retire my old Camedia 4000 next year, but will keep it for a spare. It did a great job, it's just that the old style memory cards it takes just don't do the job for me. They don't hold much.
