Hi,

I've put together a tech liveaboard trip for a group of mates for 15-28 February 2011, and we have three spaces left. The majority of the group is US-based and we'll be flying in through Cairo, doing a liveaboard out of Hurghada on the wrecks of the northern Red Sea and then doing a couple of days in Luxor visiting the Valley of the Kings.

After all, why go to Egypt and not see the Pyramids?

Fly out of USA Tues Feb 15th, to arrive Weds Feb 16th.
Thursday Feb 17th - Pyramids near Cairo.
Land transfer to Hurghada Fri Feb 18th.
Liveaboard departs for 6 days wreck diving the morning of Feb 19th, back in port evening Feb 24th.
Transfer to Luxor Friday morning Feb 25th.
Arrive back in Cairo Monday Feb 28th.
Presidents' Day is in the middle, which should save a day's vacation.

The boat is Emperor's Elite, a new boat. The itinerary is the usual highlights:
Rosie Moller
Thistlegorm
Wrecks at Abu Nuhas (Giannis D, Carnatic, Chrisoula K, maybe Kimon M)
The deep Al Qamar Al Misri car ferry (220-270ft)
Option to do Herbat Allah

The boat is rebreather-friendly with Sorb, O2 and trimix. Doubles and stage bottles are available and included in the price, as is Nitrox32. This is a tech trip, with longer bottom times available and you should be certified for your unit at ideally Normoxic Trimix level (200ft) and definitely deco procedures, with Advanced Trimix if you want to do the deepest wreck.
Full itinerary on the website and I can provide you details of the 6 wrecks we expect to dive.

Cost is $2600 for two nights at Hilton in Cairo, 6 days world-class wreck diving including doubles or rebreather and bailout tank rental, 2 nights Luxor Hilton resort and land transfers. Partners/spouses on recreational gear can come for $2400 and do half of the wrecks, to recreational depths, with a colourful reef dives to make up the difference. Flights from the US are running at about $900 from the Eastern seaboard at the moment.

Europeans welcome too, obviously. Obviously quicker to get to so you might not want to do the land-based sightseeing. You can either join us in Cairo to see the pyramids or arrange a charter flight to Hurghada. The price listed is for the full trip, we can sort out a Sterling or EUR price based on boat-only or part of the trip.

Cancelled due to State Department warning - we will rearrange for later in 2010 or similar dates in 2011.

All refunds received and paid out to the trip members. FX rates and bank charges were incurred, but 90% of money was returned.

Kudos to Tekstreme/Emperor Divers for their calm no-nonsense approach and not hesitating to honour their terms and conditions. I've dived with Emperor for many, many years, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Kudos to Hilton hotels for also being speedy in their refunds. We were booked into the Ramses Hilton near Tahrir Square, but still they managed to answer the phone and get the refund to us not long after banking services resumed.

Assuming the Egyptian referendum passes smoothly and a permanent government is installed then we aim to try again for virtually the same dates next year, i.e. Feb 2012, straddling Presidents' Day.
