I have been searching the board for a discussion on this matter. I wanted to get an idea where I can get information regarding the tide in my side of the ocean. Can you guys recommend a site where I can get this information. Thanks.

What side of the ocean is your side. I don't know if this will help, but I use www.noaa.gov. They have marine section.

Depends where you live, if its the UK forget it, the UK Government decided some time last year its tide data/calculation constant is copyrightable and as a result requires a large licencing fee for its use.

They will only release data for up to 7 days from the current date and that can be found on their site at:

http://www.ukho.gov.uk/easytide.html

String- That's completely unbelieveable (not saying I don't believe you though  )

AMC- did you try your local dive shop? The ones in my area not only post them, they also calculate the adjustments for the most popular dive sites.

If so check out Tide Tool A great application that has the tides right on your Palm Pilot for most of the world. freeware :D

Its true - the UKHO have decided to copyright natural constants:

http://lists.essential.org/pipermail/random-bits/2001-June/000570.html

also http://www.wxtide32.com/ (look at May 2001 update)

finally:

http://www.daba.eclipse.co.uk/tidal_info.htm

so yes, amazing as it seems theyve copyrights acts of nature and making money out of them.

Still, no difference to biotech companies patenting natural DNA sequences i suppose.

As a result if you dont pay and want to plan a UK dive more than 7 days in advance, forget it.

For those wondering where my side of the ocean is, its in the Philippines.

I'll will ask my LDS the next time I visit.

Thanks for the initial input. Have downloaded some pertinent data.
