Has anybody been to Sherkston quarry lately or have any info on what to expect in the way of vis at this time of year?

Thanks
Al

Usually by now the "grass" is long, and the vis is poor, but it's been 2 months since i've been there.

(I HATE shore diving)

I've been there with students....... 2 weeks ago vis was 5-10'

On our last trip there, we found a truck that we didn't know about :)

.........just when I thought there wasn't anything else to see in there ;)

That "poor" vis is great practice!!

Hello

That place is a dump, kind of reminds me of the Trailer Park Boys. Why dive it when you have hundreds of clear clean lakes all around Ontario.

Student training, gear testing............And I'd appreciate if you'd not call my (almost) backyard a dump.......

At least allow me to first!!!!

Yup, she's dumpy :D

But your backyard is 4-5 hours away!, Lake Erie is a write-off and Toby blows........

Regards.

Hi

OK! I won't call it a dump but perhaps and ecoli breeding pit is more the right terminology to be used in describing that place.

For Deep Scuba Ive never had a chance to dive Lake Erie yet but was planning to perhaps next summer. You mentioned that Erie is a write off why? Too Rough? Low Vis?

There's a 70% chance every trip you plan to make will be scratched by poor weather/wind/waves,...stinkin' lake anyways.

It's too bad, because when you DO finally get out, it's usually warm, and almost all the diving is done between 80-100ft, with decent vis.

(Long point can be/is deeper)

I attempted to sneak a dive in there over the long weekend and the vis was terrible <5ft. The vis at Windmill is pretty good though, maybe as much as 20ft on a good day.

And THEN you "snuk" onto our charter with BIG JIM!

Wasn't that WAY better than Windmill!!!

Can you explain how to find the truck, via a more known landmark, such as the locomotives, pump house, etc? I've been there a few times, but have only seen the locos, the pump house, a couple of the quarry carts, and done the wall dive to the right (North) of the dive entry point. But doing that (single aluminum 80s) you only finish about half of the cliff wall from the entry point to the beach. Any other neat things you've found there?

man that just brought back memories... one day, a number of years ago, the vis was so bad there, I almost swam into (as in inside) a car (the door was open)....

OMG talk about memories, used to swim in both Sherkston and Windmill in the late 60's and early 70's. On a side note, how was turkey season Rhwest?

On a side note, how was turkey season Rhwest?

Only got out/up your way for one weekend (5/19 & 5/20), and it was really rushed. Did, however, get the second largest bird I have ever taken. 20#+, 10" beard, and 1-1/4" spurs. I'm very pleased. Didn't get a chance to look you up. Ended up having to go to the Amish and pick up the cabinets for the cottage. My goodness they do wonderful work! Talk to you soon.

Clear, clean lakes in Ontario?
Once upon a time.
It's too bad about Sherkston as the water quality sure has gone down. I would only dive it very early spring or late fall.

A set of photos taken at Sherkston on May 7th, Viz had decreased since just the week before. Photos are of Jim Garrington, Shark Marine using his diver Navigation system. 'Shark Marine Navigator'
