O2 and HE quality

I was hoping some could post their reasoning about what quality O2 and He they use for breathing.

it all comes from the same bulk tank. I have been using welding grade He and O2 for the past year.

is likely extremely pure. Impurities in sheild gasses used for heliarc welding will lead to defective welds, which is very un-good.

The medical grade allows the most crap.
The purest grades are technical but are way too expensive for diving.

Welding O2 and He are perfect.
Open a welding shop or make friends with someone who runs a welding shop and have easy access to gas.

Thanks for the input. I understand that O2 all comes from the same bulk tank, but is there any testing done to it after it is taken from that tank and labeled industrial, med or aviator? Does the HE all come from the same bulk tank also and is there any testing after that is removed from the bulk tank. Thanks Rick

Thanks Rick To the best of my knowledge, the only difference after the whip off the bulk tank/booster is the hygene of the bottles it is being loaded into.

It's pure economics. Making and transporting gas that meets all grades is far cheaper than making and transporting two or more grades of the same gas. While it might be cheaper to produce, for instance, medical oxygen that won't serve as cutting oxygen, once duplicate handling equipment is paid for, overall costs are much higher.

It's as close as the gas industry can get to "one size fits all."
