Aqualung or Wenoka?

Finally narrowed down my choices of BC knives down to the Aqualung Mini Zak or the Wenoka Squeeze Lock. Any suggestions or feedback?

I have the Wenoka Squeeze Lock (not the Big Squeeze) and like it.

Would be based on which one felt most comfortable in my hand doing what I intend to do with it. If you wear gloves compare with gloves. Which is easiest to get to? You want to make sure it is easy to extract when you need it, and you can hold it comfortably and securely while at task.

If its a toss-up, get the one that brings out the diver in you.

Use for the knife is simply limited to having a utility instrument, while rec diving...

Just wondering between these 2 knives, does one have an advantage over the other with regard to:

1) Corrosion/rust resistance

2) Quality of the sheath and its release (also ease of mounting)

3) Ability to cut through different material

IMHO of course

1) Equal

2) This is a personal call. I know guys that dive with sharpened houshold blades that they would'nt trade for anything. Made their own sheaths from canvas.

3) You have to think of what you will be cutting. Again this is going to boil down to a personal choice, and what YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO with your tools.

I dive with at least 2 tools. A Spyderco Harpee, and shears. I may
strap on a 5" sheath depending on what I'm doing. Each one has its own purpose. The Spyderco has a hawk bill blade. Easy to slip between skin and tight line without sheading blood. Shears are the ticket for steel leader line. 5" comes in handy for anything in between. Especially the situations you never ever in a million years thought could happen. Ever hack away wet rope from a prop line?

Think about what you will be doing. Think about what you know you can do with your tools. Consider how carefully you care for your tools. the choice will become obvious.

I read a review of the Squeeze-Lock and it was supposed to be really good. Whatever knife you get, make sure that the sheath is secure and easy to operate. The review talked about one knife that was really tough to remove from the sheath while underwater. They said they would need a crowbar to get the blade out if they really needed it. Haha.

I have a mini zac with the blunt tip and I have found it to be fine. I mounted it on my bc waist band and 2 years later the clip in sheath is still very secure, no problems. It might be too small to use with gloves though, it is even a little bit on the small size for my bare hand.

As far as how well it holds an edge . . . well, i sharpen my knives regularly anyway. You can't expect the stainless in dive knives to hold an edge for all that long. If you are looking for something you don't have to sharpen often you are probably better off with a titanium knife.
