Hello spool owners,
I want to make some 2-3 spools for my self from delrin, since i can not get them here. Only dive rite has them and they are 2-3 more expensive then in states.
So, I want to make them by my self.
Can any one give me the measures of the spool, like from E.E.?
And second question is how is the rope attached to the spool?
thanks,
sasha

Spool size is not critical.
You need to be able to hold it between a thumb and forefinger so that it can spin and pay out line.
I have a couple of spools I use for working dives that I made from hose guides (garden hose) from WalMart. They are about 3 inches in diameter and a little over 2 inches thick.
If I were making them myself on a lathe I would go about 2.5 to 3 inch diameter and 1.5 to 1.75 inches thick.
You need holes around the rim to clip to.
AUL has spools on sale right now for $5. I don't know about shipping for you though.

This has the picture, you can go to the home page and go to the shopping section if you want to buy.

I ordered a couple of these spools (at this price, I had to) and will be able to tell you more about them when they arrive.

They're crap. Too thin and they break without any pressure whatsoever.

I was hoping to get measures of the EE spools. If someone has them, can you measure it?

Hi Sue,
thanks again for your help. It was exactly what I was looking for. I asked Jan if he can post a higher res pic, since I want to take this to the friend with access to CNC.
take care,

newbie question (not a troll):
what do you use the small spools for? I can understand the large reels for caves - a lifeline when things get silted up. But, what would you use the spools for? I'm going to guess that they hold only 50 or 80 feet of line.

Also as a safety reel backup.
