Thinking about checking out the Juno this weekend...
I did a search on the board but didn't find much about it.
Anybody been there recently? Any comments/advice I should be take note of? Driving directions from TO?
I'll have to confirm with my buddy but we'll likely go on Sat morning... if anyone else is interested...
Thanks!!!!

Hello
If i'm not mistaken the Juno is just off shore in Bowmanville. 6 to 12 feet depth and is more of a snorkel dive than scuba and is brocken up. I dove this wreck some years back and makes for an easy pleasurable afternoon adventure.
Cheers

These directions were sent to me last summer, and have been verified by a couple of people, so they must be somewhat accurate.
Take Liberty south from the 401 and turn East at the Animal Hospital (which is Lake Rd). When you get to the fork in the road, turn South on Port Darlington Rd and go over the RR tracks. Just past the tracks, turn right (West) on West Beach Rd. After going over two bridges and you'll come to "Cove Road/Cedar Crest Beach Road"; turn right. Within 100 or 200 meters you'll come to a bridge that has a plaque on it that starts "1999 Municipality of Clarington/Diane Hamre..." Park near the bridge. Walk toward the lake along the path that begins at the south-east corner of the bridge. (This path is public property.) You'll pass a couple of picnic tables. When you get to the lake, the Juno is about 200' straight out. In fact, there's a dead tree at the shore about 10 feet west of the picnic tables whose main branch points directly to the Juno.
A few photos can be found at http://www.geocities.com/marvintpaa/juno.html
I hope this helps.

Thanks DMI and Marvintpa (if those are you're real names:D )
With the coming of the bad weather on the weekend we may stick to something like the Morrison in Barrie - plus they are doing a site cleanup for Project Aware so that might be worthwhile.
Still formulating a dive plan with my buddy so we still may go there yet...
Thanks again!!!

I talked with my buddy and we'll likely do the Morrison this weekend. Still not sure of the day due to the expected weather but if anyone else is interested, just PM me...

Did the Juno with a friend Aug 27 (she just has to get into the water some days!). It is really slick with weeds and flattened out like a pancake so not much left to see. I got sick with the runs that night so questionable water quality. Directions accurate except there are no 2 picnic benches or dead tree - the path from the SE corner of the bridge takes you straight to the water where there is one picnic table (you can suit up on it) The wreck remains are clearly marked with 2 jugs (what was left of the bow and stern) right in front of you. I'd pass on it tho.

Did the Juno on Oct. 11th, the directions were great! Thanks guys! Although the jugs marking the wreck were found on shore we asked a local if it was the right spot and he pointed us in the right direction. Lotsa nuts and bolts and nails around and the prop was cool. It was fairly cold, 55-59F, but the water quality was pretty good - and no runs!!! :D
We ended up taking the jugs back out and securing them to the wreck so they should be there now...

I always smile when I hear someone talk about diving the Juno. I used to snorkel that wreck when I was only about 7 or 8 years old and that's a couple of days ago. I have a few brass pressure fittings from it from those days on display.
I had a thrill 3 years ago when I went for a scuba dive on the wreck with my wife and son after not seeing it for over 40 years.
Seaweed, Zebra Mussels and low visibility certainly don't rate it as a great dive but I was thrilled anyway. It's not changed a great deal although it was hard to spot all the machinery and other parts that were once visible even from the surface.
Even with my history on the wreck I don't know or have forgotten it's story.
Marvintpa, if you can reach Kimberley, she has a lot of detail about it.

Save Ontario Shipwrecks (SOS) has the U/W survey of the Juno in their "Ship's Stores" section. It is (or was) available for a very small fee. Many years ago, I worked on the initial survey work on the Juno - lovely little wreck with interesting elements still observable. For those interested in ship construction from the "old" days, it is a great way to see how these beauties were put together. Depending on the shifting sands, the windlass is quite impressive, as is the rudder.:)

I was surprised at the amount of items still around the wreck. The vis was fairly good too. I wasn't too surprised at the lack of fish present but was kinda hoping to see more wildlife. But I did see about 3 fairly large fish (probably bass based upon the stripes) but that was it.
Seahunter, which items are on display at S2K??? When I went there after the dive to return tanks they weren't labeled like some of the others you have there.
The windlass and the rudder were quite impressive:wacko:
I've got those pics on my site...
