Greetings, fellow Ontario Divers.

Could anyone suggest any shore dives in the Parry Sound area? Rock formations, wrecks or any reason to get wet will suffice.

We will be camping there this coming weekend. I know there is a dive shop in Parry Sound so we will definitely stop in there. Just wanted to get some opinions from Scubaboarders.

Thanks,
Joe

Check out Depot Harbour on Parry Island. It has been a number of years since I dove there, but it is definitely interesting.

I was there at Killbear Park this summer and did some interesting dives. Theres Depot Harbour which has some interesting old cribs, Depot Harbour is a ghost town now.Theres a wreck in Parry sound down town harbour out from the beach.Tony is the the owner of Divers Nook in Parry Sound , hes a very friendly guy who will also be more than happy to point you to some other interesting places. He was very helpful for me during my stay.He also runs a charter out to some of the wrecks in Georgian Bay,the wreck of the Atlantic is one of the better ones. Enjoy your holiday!

Oh yes - I forgot about Killbear Park (thanks simcoediver). Diving off the beach at Harold Point day use area is nice - the wall to the left is interesting and there are usually lots of fish.

The Atlantic is an interesting shipwreck that slopes down from about 10 feet to about 35 ft down the side of a big smooth rock island. The island is great for gearing up and having lunch.the ship is broken but its all there, boilers engine, chains, propeller there even an old snowmobile down on the bottom! You need a boat to get out to it,or a charter from Divers Nook in Parry Sound.GPS coordinettes are 45 20 033N--080 15 650 you can see the wreck under the water as its usually very clear.Enjoy your dive!

We dove the Marquette & The Lottie Wolf on the Labour Day weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed both dives and plan to do them again. Both quite shallow (Marquette 30 feet and a bit, don't have my log book to hand and the Lottie Wolf about 20 feet), the Marquette is more intact, upright on the bottom, has a capstan still on the bow, both anchors on chain lying off the bow and the centerboard trunk is upright. No deck left, but most of the hull is there. The Lottie is flattened (ice damage over the years?), but still some machinery there and you can see more detail on how a double planked hull was put together. Bottom is more sandy than muddy, not too much silt. The day we dove there was a slight current, just enough to move any silt away if you touched bottom (we had 2 new divers with us and they did well, but did touch a few times), vis was in the 30 to 40 foot range.
