Hello
Plenty of fish are now gathering around the Morrison wreck in Barrie, but the vis is still some what poor. I suggest waiting another month or so when the algae die completely makeing it a great simple close shore dive.

I was up there just this past Sunday and there were pleny O fish about!
I was up there at the beggining of Sept too and I thought there were a lot of fishies swimming about, but last weekend proved there are even more now! Schools of Tiger Perch and it looks like some of the bigger fish are hanging around there now.
There are still plenty of divers going there so the vis was still kinda poor but still a good dive. I think the water temps were about 68F - no hood just gloves. Even saw some of the fish feeding on some part of another fish - or what was left of another fish:D

Hi
Yes the water has been piss warm and its not from the discharge pipes either. Perhaps I may take my sub down on her for a fun run next week.

I just finished a scooter dive on the Morrison recently and was disgusted to see that someone has strung lines all over the wreck. It looks like a tec course gone bad with their line tied onto a large area of the wreck. Please keep you lines on your reels and off the wreck. You are not supposed to be touching the wreck, let alone wrap your lines all over it............have some common sense people.:doctor:

Hi Extreme
I agree, looks like we have some one who never learned to use a compass. I don't mind the line out to the wreck from shore, but I WILL BE CUTTING ALL THAT LINE OFF THE WRECK IT SELF NEXT TIME OUT. I figure its just some scuby doo PADI instructor who has claimed the wreck as his own. The last time I saw line like that all over a wreck was on a wrecked fishing schooner I dove on off Newfoundland. The Morrison is no place to be laying usless line for every one to get fouled up in, beside it a simple wreck to get to and around.

When I was there last weekend for some reason there were people doing the dive from a boat:confused:
Don't know why as it is an easy shore dive - but the big this was their anchor line was practically ON the wreck!!!
Not good:upset:

Hi
Yes! your correct about boat anchoring, at one time the anchored line for the Morrison was off to the side of the wreck some distance but some genius has tide it directly to the remainder of the fragile bow so any would be anchorer would be in direct line of dropping his/her anchor directly on the wreck. I guess this will be another project to correct, and If its not chained and locked people always mess it up.

Dove the Morrison today and I personally took care of the line. Damn there was a lot of it on the wreck. Took me about 20 minutes to get it all. Cut the line every 2 feet so that no divers would get tangled by it. I never seen something so dangerous in my life. If somebody did not know it was there they could of easily got tangled by it.

Hi
The line from shore has been there for many years and was in good condition until a few years back. Seems there are more divers pulling them selves to the wreck instead of swimming out to it via guide line. Thanks for cleaning up the mess but you could of saved all that line for your dive reel as there must of been 400 feet of it layed out across the wreck.
Cheers

I left the main line alone. Just killed the reel line that was all over the wreck. Viz was crap. Seems there were a number of classes diving the wreck all day long. Unable to save the line do to the fact in some areas the line was knotted.

heading out tomorrow night to fix the line from the shore to the wreck. got about 250 feet of 1/3" poly rope to mark at least some of the way out - will have to use the existing line for the rest.
any idea why the yellow buoy is gone and who the hell moved the guide line in the first place?

Hi
The guide line was for many years in place until two years ago, when some retarted diver cut it all out, but with the financial funding from D M I and elfmun industries, we were able to go out and purchase some new line and lay it out from shore to the wreck with a jug marker at shore, but as expected in the upside down society we live in, some diver cut it out last summer. Your guess is as good as mine, maybe PADI has a line cutting course now that we don't know about. The yellow bouy that was just over the wreck, I believe was removed last fall but replaced this spring with a white jug.
Thanks for going out and fixing it up.
Cheers

imagine my disappointment, after bringing 400' of rope with me, to find out that the line is back in place. at least Tom was nice enough to let me know before we took it into the water.
54F! - that didn't take long. Brockville is gonna feel like Coz this weekend.

might be better tomorrow if it's been cold enough...

Out on the Morrison today - and viz was at least 20 ft
Could be a number of factors - most likely - there were no other divers
Could have been the rain and cold??? Nah!

Everytime I've been to the Mo' (as I like to call it) there were always OW cert dives going on. Makes for some bad vis, but usually they stayed away from the wreck and stuck to one of the first bricks when you follow the line to the Mo'. Once we were returning back and as we approached the gradual slope back to shore all we saw was silt... and then a diver and then 6 other newbies clawing there way, we almost ran into the DM...
Must be nice to dive there with no other divers...

Hello
Give it another couple of weeks when the Algae die off from the colder water and lack of sunlight. I dive the Morrison all year if I can and its nice and clear come Dec.

Does the number of fishermen drop off? I meant to post a follow up (bad groundhog :bonk: ) after our dive on Oct 13, but forgot. Vis was about 20 feet and water around 55F.
Met dreid from on here along with the other 3 in his group (his wife if I recall correctly and another guy who lurks here).
But, there were a lot of people fishing from boats. On the plus side most were anchored, so minimal prop danger and I'm not sure we can expect anchored boats to move so we can dive, but there were a couple who cruised slowly on past a dive flag and one who anchored almost on top of the guide rope about half way between the wreck and the beach, while divers were on the wreck. From the way he handled the boat and anchoring, I hope he's a lot better at fishing.
I did dive it last year on Dec 22, water was 38F and vis was 10 feet or less. Possibly stirred up from wind/wave action rather than algae. The day we were there, the winds were from the West and not rasing any waves, but I don't know what it was like the day or two before.
