Marvintpa September 25th, 2003, 09:25 AM Just wondering: are there any underwater photographers out there who frequent the OFWF page? diver gadget September 25th, 2003, 09:46 AM I used to consider myself a bit of a photographer. I have (had) a Sea and sea Motermarine II ex. Great camera that I took many pics with. HAd it for about 5 years before I flooded it in Bonaire. I have not bought a new still yet as before I had flooded my still I had bought an digital video that I have been using ever since. Also when I saw a few of your pics I relized I had a long way to go on my stills. I will buy another still camera but have been looking into the digital route. Your one pic of the Katie is one of the best pics (in my opinion) I have seen of our Ontario area. Anyways ever looked into the digital still area?? Tom R September 25th, 2003, 09:51 AM Video included also? Marvintpa September 25th, 2003, 09:55 AM Yes, I've considered digital, and it has many attractive points, but it's just not where it needs to be to make it worth my while at the moment, particularly for Ontario diving. It could happen soon, but in my humble opinion I don't think anyone has made a camera that surpasses a Nikonos V with 15mm lens (for Ontario diving) yet. Marvintpa September 25th, 2003, 09:55 AM Sure, video guys 'n gals can play in this sandbox too. diver gadget September 25th, 2003, 10:07 AM Marvintpa once bubbled... I guess it's a shame they stopped making them. Do you have a few incase of flood? Marvintpa September 25th, 2003, 12:12 PM You can still get a Nikonos repaired. Nikon Canada does an exceptional job. And yes, I have a couple. diver gadget September 25th, 2003, 12:20 PM I would love to pick one up on e-bay or something like that someday but the is always something else to spend money on and my video camera still works pretty good. What is a good price for a Nikonos camera now-a-days? Marvintpa September 25th, 2003, 12:41 PM A used Nik can be had for around $500 CN$ on eBay. Good lenses can be double or tripple that. diver gadget September 25th, 2003, 12:58 PM A good lense? A Nikon lense? Do the Nikonos camera's support other lenses? I think I have heard that See and Sea make lenses that work for the Nikonous camera but I can't remember if that is true or not. vlada September 25th, 2003, 01:31 PM but somethign tells me that marvintpa knows about me already :) :) Would be interesting to see the side by side comps of Nik V with 15mm lens and my 17mm in the housing once i put the appropriate extension ring on Vlada DeeDee September 25th, 2003, 01:56 PM There is lots of people that read only :) -- Digital photography freek under cover :) .. oly 5050 + pt015 + dx90 wetman September 25th, 2003, 02:12 PM Tom, My two favorite ontario pics have been your katie shot and the munson one that i've only seen recently. Been waiting to get some decent vis this year to start taking more of my own pics up here. Hopefully this fall. My last real photoshoot was in cuba when i first got my camera far too many months ago. I did this poster up from that trip out of some pics i took: Poster (http://www.sitecode.com/adposter.jpg) I'd love to spend much more time on the photo stuff actually. Never been much of a camera guy though, so all thats been fairly new to me as well. steve Marvintpa September 25th, 2003, 04:56 PM Nice poster! Tom R September 25th, 2003, 05:26 PM Dude, some of your pics are in the current issue of Diver. Tom R D M I September 25th, 2003, 05:45 PM Hi I use the Nikon coolpix 9500 in a 203 New ikelite housing, it provides some of the best digital I've see thus far in digital underwater photography, but as you all know the amount of light required to produce good digital images in our some what silty dark lakes is more expensive than the camera and housing combined. Cheers D M I;) jrtonkin September 26th, 2003, 08:30 AM What about wanna-be photographers? You know, after I get around to graduating, getting a job, racking up some savings, and can actually afford the relevant toys? :) Still, I do a bit of land-side shooting, and at some point want to take a camera with me while diving. Jamie boney September 26th, 2003, 01:12 PM I've only got a crappy point and shoot 35mm auto everything camera but so far its not too bad. I'm no pro either though so I think it works for me. I've posted one set of pics in the UWPhotography section but I was looking for colour correction advice. I'll post some up after this weekend when I scan them in, and touch them up with my computer... Col_CCC October 1st, 2003, 07:55 PM i am just starting out really, but yes i can be included in this. have an mmII w/a ys-50 strobe, macro and wide angle are coming soon though. (always use my friends currently)
