Which Regs have kits/instrcutions avail?

Could anyone give me the brand of reg out there where kits can be purchased by a regular joe diver? I would like to purchase a reg that later on down the line I can service myself with authentic rebuild kits. I've seen some posts on purchasing O-Rings from McMaster Carr that fit within certain regs. Is this all that is needed to properly service regs?

I believe Dive-Rite Regs kits are readily availale for purchase. Dive-Rite also provides online manuals for the rebuild of their Regs for free (Sweet).

I thought I saw a post about Apek Reg kits being available from some place in Asia. This is a little scary. Especially when you see the prices in 1,000,000 Baht!

Are rebuild/service kits no more than a bunch of O-Rings?

I did see a link for that Reg Service Manual for sale. Does this clearly explain all types of Regs out there, and how to obtain parts for servicing your own Regs?

Abyss sells the kits and the book to rebuild their regs. Fill express is selling diverite kits and has the manual also.

Rebuid kits are mostly o-rings but there are a few other parts that are unit specific- more complex repairs if an orfice or piston needs to be replaced are very specific to a particular reg.

why is it difficult to buy rebuild kits for any brand of regulator? Can I go into a regular dive shop that would service my reg and buy the kit from them? thx

All dive shops usually service regs themselves and will not be willing to sell you the parts. Many also represent popular regulator brands that offer lifetime warranty so they'd think twice before selling you anything that cuts into their income.

To buy parts, look for a wholesaler. I use a US divers reg and would like to service the reg myself but I can't find any reference to use as a guide. Anyone know where I can find them?

through "regular" channels dive rite is your best bet. abyss does sell the kits but when you look at the price you may want to have a 100% O2 bottle handy. when you check out the dive rite service manual you will also get an idea of what kind of parts are needed. it is more than just o-rings.

Would their regulator manual apply to a USD SE2? This is the reg I am using...I guess this can be missed as the thread lengthens.
