I will be in Key Largo for a week beginning April 28th..and will be staying at the Holiday Inn.

Would appreciate information re: Water temps at depth. that time of year as well as recommendations for a good dive shop(s) in Key Largo.

Thanks,

Sy

I have alway dove with Rainbow Reef but this summer going to go with KeyLargoScubaShack. Have heard great things about them so thought I would give them a try.
Their boats only take out 6 and have DM on every dive...depends whether you want bigger groups or not.

Have fun and do a trip report when you return....

Half way down this thread, I have a post with links to three great shops in Key largo. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/fl...ve-sites-variety-wrecks-reefs-sharks-etc.html

I just dove in Pompano today and it was 76-77 degrees: I'd imagine Key Largo will be similar or slighly warmer: at least on the shallow dive sites. Some else can confirm this, but I bet the wrecks will be in the low to mid-70's though you could get lucky with 77 degrees or warmer.

Lots of good dive ops, including Quiesence, Conch Republic...
I've booked a few dives as well with Key Largo Scuba Shack in June to check them out (the 27th, in case any of y'all will be down).

Conch Republic does a dive report every day on their calendar, and gives you conditions including water temps. 78 on the Spiegel yesterday at 80fsw: https://conch.scubaocity.com/index.cfm?go=divecalendar&shop_id=2

second for Key Largo Scuba Shack have big trip planned in July. The office manager Kim is super efficient. Emails the same day. Small boat with free guide. Have also dove Rainbow Reef. DJ runs a very nice operation.

I would recommend Island ventures or Scuba-Do both are small boats that care about the divers a little more then the rest. I would stay away from the cattle boats.

Water Temp today is 79F will in the 80's when u get here.

That's a shame... It's always a pleasure to dive with another Scuba-boarder...

Be sure to post your dive report... would love to know how it went, and where you dove... I know they allow first reservations to choose the site...

I'll be doing my AOW with Rainbow next Mon - Wed. They're a short walk from the Holiday Inn. Rainbow offers special rates for that Holiday Inn also. They hooked me up with the Courtyard for $129/night. I think the price drops again at the end of the month. Check their website if interested.

I'm guessing a 3mm will be good enough? (I'll probably also pack my hooded vest to be safe)

Steve

If you're staying at the holiday inn i believe you are/were eligible for a discount at sea dwellers dive shop. Their boat is rather large so you'll be with a lot people but the staff are great. If you want a smaller boat I hear silent world is great and i really get that impression from their website.
