View Full Version : Key Largo Water Temps & Dive Shops
sytech April 16th, 2011, 01:25 PM I will be in Key Largo for a week beginning April 28th..and will be staying at the Holiday Inn. Would appreciate information re: Water temps at depth. that time of year as well as recommendations for a good dive shop(s) in Key Largo. Have heard great things about them so thought I would give them a try. Their boats only take out 6 and have DM on every dive...depends whether you want bigger groups or not. Some else can confirm this, but I bet the wrecks will be in the low to mid-70's though you could get lucky with 77 degrees or warmer. I've booked a few dives as well with Key Largo Scuba Shack in June to check them out (the 27th, in case any of y'all will be down). The office manager Kim is super efficient. Emails the same day. Small boat with free guide. Have also dove Rainbow Reef. DJ runs a very nice operation. LakeCountyDiver April 17th, 2011, 09:34 AM I would recommend Island ventures or Scuba-Do both are small boats that care about the divers a little more then the rest. I know they allow first reservations to choose the site... Katch April 18th, 2011, 03:51 PM I'll be doing my AOW with Rainbow next Mon - Wed. They're a short walk from the Holiday Inn. Rainbow offers special rates for that Holiday Inn also. They hooked me up with the Courtyard for $129/night. I think the price drops again at the end of the month. Check their website if interested. I'm guessing a 3mm will be good enough? (I'll probably also pack my hooded vest to be safe) :beerchug: Steve ROBIBLER April 19th, 2011, 06:19 PM If you're staying at the holiday inn i believe you are/were eligible for a discount at sea dwellers dive shop. Their boat is rather large so you'll be with a lot people but the staff are great. If you want a smaller boat I hear silent world is great and i really get that impression from their website. jimw April 19th, 2011, 07:23 PM Sea Dwellers boat is next to the Holiday Inn along with several 6 pack boats. Across the canal is Rainbow Reef. The Sea Dwellers side of the canal would be VERY convenient to your room at the Holiday Inn. I've been diving with them over the years probably 15 times--nice folks!! I might be able to remember a six or two on the same side--Minnow is one I believe. Just wanted to give you a current weather report from Key Largo and let you know what to expect...Out on North Dry Rocks (Christ of the Abyss) Today we have: Wind: S 10 kts Waves: 2 Feet Water Temp: 78 Visibilty: 30 feet The weather has been a bit blowy lately (rare for this time) which is why the viz is only 30 feet. We should be having hardly any wind, which means no waves and the water temp is going to continue to increase. Everyone is pretty much wearing a 3mm full length right now and it keeps them cozy.
