We need at least five members to start.

Post your interest.
I'll need to put together an original member contact list,

So far that makes ten.
(added docmartin via PM)

So what do you guys think,
give it another week of open enrollment?
(The final list is going to NetDoc who needs a week or so anyway.)

First order of business, we'll eventually need a name.
(We don't need it to start and can change it at anytime).

Is there a cool name for the tri-state area?
You know like New England or Four Corners.
(Is tri-state, NY,NJ w/ PA or CT???)
Regardless I think tri-state sounds lame.

ScottyK
October 14th, 2003, 10:05 AM
Xjae- I like your original name of Wreck Valley. Tri State and New England both would imply Connecticut, which is already covered by NELD. Anything with "metro" would exclude our friends in PA, as the metro area is considered NY/NJ.

Let's submit everything now and get it rolling. We can add members as they sign up. More people will probaly notice it when it has a section on the main page anyway.

Besides, I'd like to see it start up while we're still actually able to dive ;)

If you live in NJ/PA the tri-state area in PA, NY, NJ
If you live in NY the tri-state area is NY, NJ, CT

I still like Joisey Wreck Divers... ;)

XJae

What is our area?

I guess officially it's NY, NJ & PA.

Realistically, it's probably Greater NY, all of NJ, Eastern PA, Northern Delaware, Southern Connecticut?
A 150 mile radius around the statue of liberty?

Logistically, I guess it depends on ability to dive in the area.

As far as I'm concerned, the more people willing to participate, and the more people willing to contribute, the merrier.

XJae

Which leads us to membership.

Everyone within the general vicinity of wreck valley, montauk to cape may, may become an associate member by posting a request on the forum.

Official membership will be granted when an associate goes diving with an official member and submits contact information.

Well I consider myself a member here. I tried to start this last group last year. Guess I didnt go about it the right way or something. I got the impression that when I was trying, NDI wasnt really ready yet in the area of "rules" and stuff to start accepting chapter applications.

Glad someone finally pulled it together for us poor Joysians! WTG!!

Now all that is left on my NJ Scuba wish list is to meet up with someone local taking a drive to florida in an large vehicle to swing by my house and pick me (and my gear) up for a week get-a-way!
:-)

Welcome Spydertek,
Now that you mention it a road trip sounds like a good idea.
I have the large vehicel and a map now I just have to figure out how to get my boss to agree that I need a weeks off.

Always wondered why there wasn't an NDI chapter dedicated to this area -- seeing as there are so many divers and so many great sites in the region.

Welcome to the club Curly.

We figured it was time for a local forum after carrying on a monthlong discussion in the Intro. thread. We had to move it somewhere :D

PS: Looking forward to meeting some of you at Dutch Springs on Dec 5-7

Not sure Dutch is open in Dec. You can get special permission to teach classes in the off mos., you just have to make sure the Instructor carries insurance to teach. Seeing as how there isn't anyone watching the water at thoses times, it becomes a liabilty issue. No insurance, no diving. Stu is pretty strick on the liability issues ( with good reason )

Sorry vfa! Forgot to welcome you aboard!! Welcome! Preceding msg. was just a little heads up. Call Dutch ahead of time and confirm if that class is scheduled. Might save you some headaches and $$$

Cool- up to 30 now :)

We even have another Long Islander.

So far, it's been a fun club to be part of. We were getting together practically every weekend until the weather crapped out, and I've yet to see a flame in this section of the board!
