I've got a couple freebies on Southwest to Lauderdale on a credit card. I usually fly into Lauderdale, rent a car and drive on down to the Upper Keys to do my diving. I thought I'd try something different and do some diving around Lauderdale or Pompano next time so's to not have to make the 100 mile round trip south. Maybe I could find a place to stay, at a reasonable price, near a dive shop. Any suggestions? I tried to find a discussion about Lauderdale only but didn't have any luck.

Garrobo, I was just in Lauderdale a week or so ago and did Lauderdale by the Sea two evenings and a drive up to Blue Heron Bridge for one evening. All shallow but wonderful dives. With your experience I'd expect you to get a good 90-120 minute down time (I got 50+minutes with about 750-1000 # of gas left) and there are some wonderful creatures to see.

There are a bunch of hotels right near LBTS and all up and down the coast there for great places to stay and eat. If you check out Gold Coast Scuba on meetup, they have a shop and a meetup group that do shore dives in FLL every day. I found "Undersea Sports" on Rte 1 (Federal Hwy) to be a fantastic shop with great customer service. I just posted a quick review in the Florida Conch section a few days ago.

Just got back from a week of diving in Lauderdale and surrounding areas. You would be doing yourself a favor by diving with the Sea Experience in Lauderdale and the Starfish Enterprise in Boynton Beach. And DEFINETLY check out the Blue Heron Bridge if you can get someone "In the know" to dive there with you. Beware though, you will not want to leave.

I have a condo in Lauderdale by the Sea (timeshare) right on the beach. I can walk out my back door and into the water for great shore diving. Look for a place on El Mar drive south of the pier off Commercial. Also google Gold Coast divers, they are on meetup and they dive everyday so if you need a buddy you will find one. PM me if you want more specific details i have been going there for over 30 years (btw i am only 31, so i go every year).

What they said above. I love Lauderdale By The Sea. Nice and calm compared to Ft. Lauderdale and a few good shore dives and some nice boat diving to be had. Have fun!

Thanks for the tips. More?
