Will be in Destin for a week in September. Are there any springs nearby that would be good for a dive or two? We are open water certified only. Thanks.

Gulf Shores is about 2hrs away and offers some shore diving, and there is some OW stuff too I think. Emerald Coast SCUBA is one of the shops in the area. Not sure if your wanting to do only springs.

Good place to look would be Underwater Florida

Floridaspring.org has a nice map to help you out too.

If you're in Destin, I would get on a boat and dive in the Gulf. The visibility isn't like that of the Caribbean, but there is usually a good variety of fish, and spearfishing is allowed too. We've used Emerald Coast Scuba in Destin for some trips and been pleased.

There are some springs (Vortex, Morrison Springs) near Defuniak Springs/Ponce de Leon, Florida. They are quite cold, crowded, and not much to see though (in my opinion).
