Hi all,

Just got my first BP/W from my LDS - Divers Supply. I got the "house brand" Sea Elite EBS 60Lbs with compression cord.

I plan on taking it to Caymans for a week of boat diving and a week of shore/boat diving. The first week on the Cayman Aggressor. It's my understanding they dive Aluminum 80's.

I'm a fairly new diver - about 50 dives, mostly all boat. I've been using a jacket this whole time, and hate the squeeze (fairly big rib cage).

Question is - will this wing work on on a single tank setup? What is wrapping like a taco - where the wing wraps around the tank? And it's bad because the air is above the dump valve? Can I prevent it on this wing by tightening down the compression cord?

I can get a single tank wing if I have to, but would rather not, running out of $$.

BTW, it's this one: Sea Elite Ebs Air Cell 60Lb W-Compression Cord @ Divers-Supply.com

Thanks

60lbs for a single AL80 in the tropics = HUGE

I dive a 40lb wing for doubles AL80s with stages and lights... just to give you some context.

Exchange it for a smaller wing. Talking with a guy helping me out with gear and basically (in general terms) 55# and above should be viewed as doubles tank

Take it back and get a single tank wing since you're going to be diving singles. There's no need for that much lift for most doubles.

Yikes! I run a single AL80 on a 26lb wing.

The only way I could see it being dangerous is if you were using the extra lift to compensate for other equipment making you way too negative. In which case you would want to reconsider the whole setup.

I'd really say you should go for a smaller wing, based on the lift capacity most suited to your diving.

Eventually Tobin will be along to post.

You don't need any more lift than the gas you carry and maximum compression of your suit (plus I guess your rig should float when you aren't attached to it). I use rotten big undergarments that take about 25#, so I use a 36# wing, giving me 11# or about 135 cuft of gas. Certainly more than any of my single tanks.

Go back to the shop and get a single HOG wing (32lb more than plenty for all single tank diving you will need even here in CLT in cold water).
