im thinking of doing some solo diving at 30'-40' off shore anyone have any tips and or advice? thanks

The general idea is don't unless you have the experience or training for it.

If you do a general search on the forums I guarantee a laundry list of threads pertaining to this, flames and all.

First tip: Get at least a hundred dives in a short period of time (less than year or two).

There have been a number of books written on the subject. Read at least one of them. Then decide and enjoy.

You may have missed it, but there is a solo forum on Scubaboard where there a plenty of divers who don’t consider the practice punishable by stoning. I am sure you will find answers to most of your questions and guidelines to decide if solo is appropriate for you.

thanks for the tips and links guys

Before you dive solo, make sure you are aware of all the "what if's" of the dive & how to avoid or work through those problems (usually done through training &/ or experience).
