I would like to find a good (inexpensive) source for large brass or stainless bolt snaps.
Anybody have a good supplier.
P.S. The CD section at home depot does not have any large enough.

He has a Scuba Section, and he's real easy to work and deal with.

Doesn't look like he has anything quite big enough. Diving in cold waters up here, so I want something easy to work with the heavy drysuit gloves.

See... you're diving in cold waters down there. WAY down there, as far as I'm concerned. :)
Seriously - what are you looking for? I dive with either thick wet gloves or Diving Concepts DryGloves... I just ordered another batch of the 1 1/8" stainless... and you can't beat the prices. Just how big do you want to get?
Reef Scuba (www.reefscuba.com) has an XXL bolt snap in Stainless, but they want $10 apiece for them.

I like the look of the XL ones from reefscuba. I just ordered a batch of the brass ones. The SS was just a little too salty for me.
42 degrees is cold enough for me, we get that year round deep at the quarry I dive. I am diving with diving concepts dry gloves, but sometimes I have a couple of layers of gloves underneath, depends on how long we are going to be down.

Doug has a nice selection of stainless bolt snaps (with stainless springs inside too) with great prices. The double enders are a little long (by 1/2") - but they still work well. I use the 1-1/8" snaps on my stage/deco bottles and the 3/4" snaps on my backup lights, gauges and long hose second stage.

be careful of the ones in Depot and Lowes, i bought a bunch of these brass ones from them trying to save money and the springs are not a good material in the brass snaps. I dive in fresh water, ( missouri and arkansas lakes) and the springs are already rusting really bad, to the point where the once smooth action of the snap is really "scratchy" now. I have about 40 or so dives on them. Of course these brass snaps are like $1.50 for the big ones so you can replace them pretty often, but i would hate to have one go bad and loose something.

I use these products all the time in salt and fresh water for work. Most of them have a working load limit (WLL) so you know exactly how strong they are. The trigger snaps about halfway down the page are great when you have gloves on. At work I can buy right from the factory at wholesale prices. They will sell from thier site at retail or you can check the links for better prices online.

You don't mean suicide clips, do you?
I may be mistaken - I interpret trigger snaps as being the kind that you can just slide over an object, like a D-Ring, and they'll snap on.
This is a very, very bad idea underwater, Boats. Because if they'll snap that easily unto a D-Ring, think how easily they'll snap unto a fish net or cave line or lift line or anything else.... and whats worse, once they've snapped unto something, if the object is relatively thick, you can't unbend the trigger snap enough to unhook it.
They're called suicide clips for a reason. You should only use the kind of bolt snaps that you need to actively open.

i think he means the round clips that have the projection that you grab with your trigger finger to open. here is a pic...

Those trigger clips are one style of suicide clips. Here (http://www.gue.com/equipment/attachment.shtml) is a full explination with pictures to go along with it. FWIW, I only use SS bolt snaps and I use the 1 1/8" snaps without problems. Your mileage may vary.

pls show the hardware illiterate the light: what do the bolt snap measurements e.g. 3/4" actually measure? it is obviously not the length of the snap.

Thanks kurt, those are the ones I was reffering to. It is harder to get something caught up in those clips unintentionaly than the bolt snaps but alot easier to open with gloves on. The jaw or hook of the snap overlap so nothing can just slip in.
docmartin.. if you go to the suncor website they show what each part of the snaps measure. With shackles, lifting hooks and most other rigging the stock diameter is used as the measurement.
