View Full Version : Case for a Suunto Vyper
Tommed October 21st, 2003, 08:05 AM I recently purchased a Suunto Vyper wrist mount. Does anyone know what size and/ or Model number Pelican case is best for the Computer? Thanks in advance for your response. scubasean October 21st, 2003, 08:22 AM I presume this is to protect the computer while it isn't being used during a dive. For $4, I bought a deep square tupperware-like container, and I wrap the computer in a towel prior to putting it all in the tupperware container. Works nicely, and can get bumped around in the dive bag with no worries.... Sorry I couldn't help you on the exact question you posed, but wanted to proffer another possibility. cheers, Sean Tommed October 21st, 2003, 08:57 AM Sean Thanks for your suggestion which I'm sure will work well between dives. I am thinking of getting/pricing a Pelican case to use when I get to travel further afield, and having a specific model number of case would be helpful. Scubaroo October 21st, 2003, 09:15 AM Honestly, just stick it inside of your mask in your mask box, rolling the rubber strap around it to protect. Mine's driven from California to Florida and then flown to Australia in carry on with no adverse effects. A pelican case is overkill. Tommed October 21st, 2003, 03:12 PM Scubaroo Thanks to you as well for your comments, I have put all kinds of gear in my mask case and it does work well. I know it may be a bit of overkill, but I would like to know what size pelican case others who have been overly-protective of their new toy would recommend! Mo2vation October 21st, 2003, 08:28 PM Pelican 1050 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2353678597&category=42363) is the only way to go. My SK7 (compass) and my Suunto Vytec fit in it. Clear top, easy to open and close - it rocks. Put them in here, toss them in the reg bag, no worries. K paulwlee October 21st, 2003, 08:50 PM The Vyper is pretty sturdy, so unless you are going to put it in the same bag loose with a weight belt or something, it will be fine. If you are worried, or are going to put it in a soft bag, you can stuff it in the foot pocket of your fins, or just make sure it's not going to wander out to contact the outer shell of the bag. A Pelican case for the Vyper is major overkill and will take up a lot of space. Tommed October 22nd, 2003, 09:06 AM Mo2vation and Paulwlee Thanks for greeting to Scubaboard and for the information. I've been on the board for a while. I think its the best source to solicit information about anything scuba relatied, and have referred many of my diver friends to the board. As to whether or not I'll get a Pelican Case or not for my computer, I'm not sure. However now that I have a specific Model number I might just put it on my Christmas gift list. Beats another tie! Mo2vation October 22nd, 2003, 01:34 PM Me, I'm not a gaget guy. I don't flock to gagets, covet the latest and greatest, etc. My (actually, one of my many...) weak spot is cases. I'm a case nut. Probably comes from being a musician, and having to schlep my drums and perciussion and PA and recording gear all over the place. Who knows. But I'm a case nut. That said, I never got a case (Pelican 1450, thank you very much) for my HID light - it always stays strapped to the BP/W. But for my Vytec and compass, my Regulator rig, my drysuit, my masks, my dry box (and some stuff within the drybox...batteries, o-Rings, drysuit patch, etc.... ) you bet. Jeeze - cases within cases, wheels within wheels....I need a life. Get a big stocking! K Ernesto December 4th, 2003, 06:54 PM I have a Cochran wrist mount receiver unit. A fairly expensive piece of dive equipment. It resides in a plastic "Rubbermaid "servin' saver" part no. 378F-2 container. It fits in nicely. It's worked for several years. The face is wrapped in a "J-cloth" , to prevent scratches. It has travelled all over like that. Last week I noticed the Rubbermaid case had a hairline crack. -- I went and bought a new one. $3.99 cdn. Save your money for dive gear. SMKChef December 14th, 2003, 08:41 PM I keep my Vytec in a DeepOutdoors MicroChip zipper pouch. The smaller pouch is a perfect soft pouch for the Vyper or Vytec. Take a look: http://www.deepoutdoors.com/utilitypro.html The pouch is well made and protective and it will be more functional and packable than a pelican box. The soft pouch will allow any residual moisture to evaporate unlike the sealed box. Steve ba_hiker December 25th, 2003, 06:38 PM I put my watches, computer, compass and a few other things in an eagle creek case like the deep outdoors case mentioned earlier. Its commonly available, is about 6x9 in, zippered, padded, and nylon covered. I added a pocket in the lid for some papers, and some dividers in the bottom. Made the dividers by cutting up an old mouse pad. I also added a plastic clip, to clip it to my dive bag (don't want to loose it all out of the boat..). I put my computer, bottom timer, watches, some other gages and stuff in the compartments.
