View Full Version : wrist compasses--suggestions?
parzych October 21st, 2003, 05:15 PM I'm looking to get a new wrist compass. Any suggestions for good brands, and ones that I should avoid? thanks! scubasean October 21st, 2003, 06:36 PM $55 for mine...Bought today. Sean ERP October 21st, 2003, 06:51 PM I have an suunto SK7, and some oceanic wrist mounted compass. I much prefer the SK7, it's much less sensitive to the angle it's held at, you have to work to jam it. I know a lot of people who use SK6's which are really compact, depends what your looking for. Scubaroo October 21st, 2003, 06:55 PM I've used both - they're both great compasses, but the standard wrist straps on both models suck. The SK6 is very compact, but as ERP said, the SK7 is readable and accurate when tilted. Bob3 October 21st, 2003, 07:17 PM Another vote for the Suunto, I like the 7. When I ordered mine, my dealer/buddy tossed in one of those tiny 1/2" zipper pull compases in the box & buried the "real" one underneath. As he had hoped, he got a rise out of me. cyklon_300 October 22nd, 2003, 09:59 AM But, do yourself a favor and take the POS strap off and replace with two loops of bungee cord... Boogie711 October 22nd, 2003, 10:28 AM Another vote for the bungeed SK7. Waterborne October 22nd, 2003, 10:31 AM I picked up an SK-5 that was new in the box from a dive shop that was going out of business for something around $15-20. It was new-old stock from the shop that had been in the back for a long time. I added some shock cord wrist straps and have been using it since. It's just a basic reverse bezel compass that does it's job and doesn't take up alot of space. Gator Diver October 22nd, 2003, 02:40 PM I have a SK-7...paid 41 smackers for it.... frankly I havent had to use it much yet except for class paulwlee October 22nd, 2003, 06:42 PM Yep, SK-7 rules. I think the most prevalent compass is the Oceanic/Genesis/Aeris/Dacor/etc/etc compass. I used to use that one too, until I found the SK-7. The SK-7 still gives an accurate reading even when it's tilted as much as twice where the above compasses stick. I have yet to put the bungie straps in, as the original straps aren't too much trouble for me. But I think I'll do it as soon as I get some bungee. WileEDiver October 22nd, 2003, 07:25 PM Yet another thumbs up for the Suunto SK-7. captain November 7th, 2003, 11:34 AM I carry a small Suunto hikers compass in my BC pocket and pull it out when I need it. One less thing on my arm. It is liquid filled and I have taken it to 160 fsw. Sells for less then 15 bucks at Walmart. Captain Gill November 7th, 2003, 05:15 PM captain once bubbled... I'll be needing a compass for AOW and that should get me by. shaggss November 11th, 2003, 08:48 PM Could someone please post a picture of the bungeed 7. Thanks in advance.:)
