to rinse or not to rinse between dives on a liveaboard

I do alot of liveaboard diving and would like to know the popular consensus about rinsing gear that spends the week on the dive deck in the sun. to date the only time I've rinsed anything (other than the camera which gets a good rinse every time it goes for a dive) is on the last day when the gear is ashed dried and packed. :doctor:

I was lucky to even rinse my wetsuit. I did keep my camera in the tub of water until I would dive with it. As far as gear, I don't think I saw anyone rinse their gear. It got a very long soaking once I returned though.

On a three-day liveaboard a few months ago:

I rinsed my wetsuit every time, because the deck had shwoers right next to where I parked my gear. And, I rinsed it in place, at the same time I rinsed my head...Of course, I wore the wetsuit much of the day, except when breaking for lunch.

As for rinsing the rest, my mask was rinsed each dive, as was the computer. The B/C/Tank setup incl. reg. didn't get a bath until I got home.

The liveaboard I did in B.C. May2002, they wanted you to leave your BC and regs attached to the tank in your little stall on the skiff so no rinsing. Same with mask, fins, flashlights... I wasn't too happy with that since I'm used to rinsing regularly. The only thing that came off the skiff was me (in my suit) so the suit was rinsed after every dive.

I forgot to rinse my computer and after a few dives, it started doing wonky things so I lightly scrubbed it with a soft toothbrush around the buttons and it was fine.

i did not rinse for the week. regs etc. are okay as long as they don't dry out with the salt crystals inside. of course, you did not want to get too close to the wetsuits by the end of the week. i wore mine under the deck shower but that only took care of the outside which was apparently not enough to keep the odor away.

I use a "sport top" water bottle to rinse my piston 1st after each dive to keep out the salt during refill. Other than that, I just try to keep thing from drying out & forming damaging crystals.
