Ever wonder why news people always use headlines like "Divers lost in shark-infested waters"

This little clip is from a news clip off Yahoo news.

The US Coast Guard said Tuesday it was investigating a Florida tourism company that left behind two tourists while they were scuba diving.
The tourists -- Paul Kline and Fernando Garcia Puerta -- were rescued by a private yacht which found them clinging to a buoy in shark-infested waters.

So why always "shark-infested waters" ? ...do you ever just wonder?

Drama. Boring stories don't get read and the vast majority of readers have no clue the writers are full of it.

Because yahoo news sucks, and it is the job of the media in this country to try an instill fear in people any way possible. The media thinks that by scaring people it will make their story better.

Sharks live EVERYWHERE in the ocean. So it is more dramatic saying Shark infested vs. Shrimp infested don't ya think? I would be more interested in understanding why divers get left behind.

Unfortunately for one of the B's in B&B Scuba here on Maui, his most famous quote ever was something like "Stick your finger in the water, then taste your finger. If it's salty, there are sharks there."

:shocked2:

News Alert:

This afternoon it was discovered that a scuba diver left the human infested land to enter the habitat of fish and marine mammals. It has been reported that on occasion the larger, more territoriality defensive creatures will take exception to this invasion of their home and may cause harm to these divers. When asked why they expose themselves to these marine dangers, they replied, "Diving is fun. The marine ecology is beautiful. And, the chance of being harmed or killed in the ocean is far less than that of remaining on shore."

Film at eleven.

The media thinks that just by saying ANYTHING except just the straight facts will make the story better. When did that all start--or was it always that way?

Its more dramatic than turtle infested waters.
Which is far more scary than blenny infested waters.

Maybe someday the media will write about the shark that was left stranded on human-infested dirt.
