roatan to cozumel

i'm thinking of spending a week diving in roatan then a week or more diving in cozumel. how to get from roatan to cozumel without having to fly back to the states. any suggestions: local airlines, ferries, buses

Well, if you're open to ferrys and buses, I say to look up Philo Bedo on Roatan, he hangs out at Green Flash Bar in West End and will take you over to Cozumel. You need to give him a couple of days notice, as he needs time to remove the inner tube from his rear truck tire so you can sit on it and be towed over, he used to have a two seater ferry but with the bad economy he had to trade down to his current single seater. Other than that I think flying is going to be the way to go since it's quite a drive.

I looked at this a couple of years ago and if memory serves me I had Roatan (RTB) to Tegucigalpa (TGU) to Cozumel (CZM) for flights.
I did not check CZM to RTB.

The mainland and coastal waters of the Honduras, Guatemala, and Belize are controlled by drug cartels and pirates. We read stories about backpackers touring Central America and such, but not for me.

Matrix.itasoftware.com shows flights possible for $600 & up one-way, but all of those seems to go thru the US. Much cheaper to Cancun. You might call Bay Island Adventures (http://www.bayadventures.com/)

It'd be a lot easier to do a week on Roatan then a week on Utila, or maybe one of the Belize Atolls.

Maya Island Air has/had flights from SAP to BZE then connections to CUN. Couple of airlines fly from RTB to SAP, like Taca, and CM. Booking these will be an adventure all unto itself!
