What is the reason people want super high flow 1st stages when using a FFM??? Why couldn't you use a normal reg like a Scubapro or the Atomic series???

Is there a minium CFM (cubic feet per minute) from the 1st stage when using a FFM?

The reason for this question is that many FFM offer a 1st stage.

Thanks
Patrick

Many do because it allows them to package the whole setup which is easier on them. Our AGA's and OTS didn't come with first stages and we use them on our Apeks US4's *read BASIC regulator, not sealed, only 1 HP port, it's their deco reg basically* in the pool and at open water training. If we're using them on our personal gear because our tanks are DIN, then they just get screwed into our first stage. I've had an AGA down to 150ft on a HOG first stage, worked fine. Use it in cold water and all that jazz, never had any problems with it. I'd be wary about taking it on an ice dive because of it's freeflow, but I'd just leave that valve shut off until I was in the water.
