View Full Version : Visiting czm with newly certified junior diver

we will be in coz this coming sat for a week we are staying at the coral princess so I think we will be diving with pepe scuba (The onsite shop) My son just got certifies as a junior padi diver and is onyl certified to 40 feet, My question is what are some of the sites he could dive at in cozumel and not exceed the 40 foot limit ?

They should require you to have a private DM for him because something you have to keep in mind that all divers on the boat are not going to want to stay at 40 feet and dive only sites that he can dive. Even if they don't require it, I would request one as a courtesy to the other divers as well as a safety for your newly certified (Jr.) diver. With a private DM, you can go to most sites, and he just stays at 40 feet witht he DM while the rest of the divers on the boat dive a regular dive plan.

Paradise is an amazing site in less than 40 feet. You can even do sites like Palancar Gardens / Caves in 40'. Requesting a private DM is definitely the way to go.

You could also look at doing Jr Advanced which would get him down to 70', but still would need to let DMs know or they could take the group much deeper. Have fun!

I highly recommend following Christi's advice but I also encourage you to get him to Colombia Shallows and area which is both shallow & awesome. I've done it many times & it's always at the top of my list to do again
