The last couple of years on SB we have had fun end-of-year threads where people reflect on their diving achievements for the year (and in some cases failures) and their hopes for the upcoming year. I always enjoy reading those threads, so I'll kick off the 2011 edition:

2011 achievements

  • Finally made it to Truk Lagoon (best week's diving of my life...)
  • Also made it to the Philippines
  • Got in about 100 odd dives (haven't actually counted up)
  • Easily broke my record for lobster from last year

2012 goals

  • Still hunting for that ever elusive trimix cert
  • Still hoping to teach my son to catch his first lobster
  • Not sure how, but I am going to really try to make it to Bikini before they close it again

Safe and happy to diving to all for the holiday season!

2011 Achievements
> Kick started my independent instructor business in the Philippines, but lots of work and refinement still to complete with that.
> Taught myself website construction and SEO - website still WiP, but happy with results and impact so far.
> Got about 400 dives in, mostly teaching tech, wreck and deep stuff (I like)...much less diving than previously when working in Thailand/Malaysia, but higher quality.
> Wrote a bunch of scuba articles and really pleased with the feedback I've received.

2012 Goals
> Develop the business, focusing on private, small/one-to-one courses at very high quality.
> Possible agency cross-over at tech instructor level.
> Formalise my technical/advanced wreck course.
> Might pick-up teaching qualifications for side-mount and solo (self-reliant).
> Start putting my articles into format for a possible book to be published - need to collate/take a bunch of illustrative photos for that.
> Looking into some virgin wreck exploration around the NW Luzon coastline - need to identify suitable vessel and support structure for that.

Well I'd never dived before this year so really this is in some ways the best year of my diving life ;-)
2011 achievements

My achievements might pale next to the above but here they are:

-Circle of diving partners and friends is expanding
-Achieved Nitrox and Ice Diving Certs
-New grandson in Feb

2012:-Hope to get Drysuit Cert
-Hope to get Rescue Cert
-Want to Dive a hell of a lot more than in 2011
-Try to get to the Bahamas in Feb
-All around just enjoy life

I think the most remarkable thing about 2011 for me was that it was the first year of diving that I didn't take a single class of any kind! I did lots of fun diving, took a number of remarkable trips, and finally got to meet DA Aquamaster. And I helped with a number of classes, and got to watch some very talented new divers take to the water.

2012 is shaping up to be fun and challenging. I'm hoping to play a big part in getting our Seattle piece of GUE's Project Baseline up and running, and to have an active role in mentoring divers (something I didn't do very much of in 2011). I'm going to work on my photo skills and maybe take a photography workshop or two. And have lots of fun in the water!

2011--Full Cave, Sidemount, & Trimix
2012--Seeing the caves on Abaco, and maybe an Advanced Wreck class with Doppler.

2011: Didn't make my goal of at least 20 dives, but got about 10. I did do BHB, which was awesome.

2012: Get my brother certified. Do at least 25 dives. Do BHB again. Maybe do an aquarium dive, just to say I did. See a shark. See a wreck.

My goals aren't too lofty this year, but hopefully they are realistic.

2011 Achievements:
-Got to do a lot of cave diving for enjoyment (currently at 50 post training dives)
- Achieved AOWI level
Overall I just taught a lot of classes

2012 Goals:
My ambitions are certainly more than I will be able to do, but here is what is on my wish list:
- Reach Dive Control Specialist Instructor level
- Learn DPV cave
- Learn both Normoxic & Adv. Trimix
- Be able to teach Adv. Nitrox
- General self- improvements
