Where are we going this week? For possibly the end of the season! Waaaaaaaah waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah waaaaaaaaah!

The boats don't go out after November, right?
And Dutch closes the following week, but I'll be hitting the warm water then, so when I come back it will officially be over.

Sure alot of people hang up there wetsuits for the year, but there are those who choose to dive year 'round.

Some people choose shore dives for the "other" season....but I prefer the boats. First, you need to find one that actually go out and a heated cabin is a must. Some boats even throw in some hot soup.

I know the Jeanne II, Dina Dee and Outlaw will be going out all winter.

As cold as it was yesterday (sunday), there were almost 10 people on the Outlaw. a few slips downin Belmar Marina, the Venture III looked to have about the same number.

The air was a chilly 40....but the water was 57 straight to the bottom.

p.s. bring a thermos of hot water for that 2nd dive. Nothing like putting hoods and gloves on when they ice cold....

Nothing like putting hoods and gloves on when they ice coldOuch I know all about that. My gear wasall wet from Saturday and stayed in my car overnight, when I put it on yesterday!

Where can you shore dive in the winter? From what others have said, there's really not much life then anyway.

There are some guys at my LDS who also dive year round. I'm pretty sure a drysuit is mandatory. Wrekdiver, correct me if I'm wrong, but you probably prefer boats in the winter because there is nothing to see from shore.

I also hear from guys who do it, that the water temps become inverse in wintertime. In other words, the shallow waters near shore are colder than the offshore water.

If you enjoy diving enough, and can swing a drysuit, I can't see any reason not to give it a try. We never did because Jen's sinuses can't take water much below 55 degrees. She could have the warmest dry suit on earth, but gets severe pain in hear head as soon as the water hits her face. We tried diving at 50 once, and it took three days for the pain to stop.

For us, the season is just about done. If the temps hold steady, we might get in one more shot this weekend. I'll just have to cyber dive and read Wrekdivers reports until the move goes through.

Then I can invite you all down for some winter diving at Ginnie Spring :)

I think next winter, after I settle in, I'll float the idea of getting a Wreck Valley "field trip" together. I'll line up some cheap lodging and good diving for a week that you guys can agree on.

Jen and I are also going to try and come back up here for a week of diving every September.

Last time we stayed at the Country Inn, I think it was $20 a night. $30 for a double.

As for the LI shore, sorry I haven’t made it out there yet.

I do some bottle diving up near Sandy Hook....

if you get a nice calm day with a west wind, there's always some of the beach wrecks...personally, I can't stand diving off the beach...I manage to get sand in every nook, crack and cranny...and then there's the sand in my dive equipment...

of course, there are the local inlets (i,e, shaark river)....can't vouch for what kind of life you would see besides the occasional oil filter, fishing lure and beer can....

Me? with the exception of some bottle diving, you'll see me on the boats with the heated cabins....

My LDS (northeastscubasupply.com) offers trips all year around. I never tried them, but I am certainly interested. Let's dust off the drysuits, group up and dive!

Or maybe we should at least get a package deal on all that Halcyon gear!

Anyway my buddy can't make it. I may still come up Sunday if anyone else is still planning on being there.

But tomorrow's going to be really busy, so I may just stay home Sunday and try to get some stuff done. This week's going to be insane at work and I leave Friday for the warm water!
