pete, elena, tim and i went north to south carysfort deep for a 2 tanker this AM(pete's enormous tank had enough gas for a dive to bimini!). 1-2 ft seas, sunshine, typical viz for this site; a mediocre 30-35FT, zero current and a cool 73F @ 75FT(i wore 5MM/hooded vest, elena 7MM/hood, tim 3MM/hood and pete, a teeshirt and friggin boxer shorts, i kid you not, it wasn't pretty!). 1st dive; 3 reef sharks, massive school of spadefish and bar jacks, lionfish all over, turtle, snappers, two very large hogfish and black, red, scamp, gag, goliath and a rare juvenile yellowmouth grouper. 2nd dive; much the same with only 2 sharks. viz was a challenge for tim or anybody attempting to capture the big animals on camera(no shark pics but they were around).

Thank you sportxlh. Kind of murky for wide angle yesterday. Just have to let the spadefish come towards you and be still. 17-55mm gives me a lot of flexibility on days like that.

thanks for the invite. what a great way to start the new year...diving with friends at lovely rarely dove key largo dive sites. we had a blast. that turtle was the biggest ive ever seen. 2 lionfish one was filet sized.
hopefully the seas will tame down for some nice diving this week.

This was an incredibly FUN dive and I got to see a completely different side to the Keys. I have wanted to dive Cary's Fort for years, but no one goes out there. I do believe we were the only boat in the protected area. Tons of lobster here, and though I couldn't do anything about them, they were fun to find.

Pete and Elena,

Great day, fun diving with you. That is a unique spot.
School of spadefish was the icing on the cake for the day.
