Woke up in the Poconos this morning to snow. (Then the wind knocked down a branch that took out the phone, cable & electric.) Had my first thoughts about skiing, how bout the rest of you? Anyone else hanging up the dive gear & dusting off the ski gear?

My boyfriend and I went up to Lake Placid last New Years and tried snow mobiling - yea, yea, I know all about the environmental impact, yada yada yada but damn it was FUN!!!! We loved it!!!

We actually tried snowshoeing too - that was kind of cool and we were able to get to places to get some pretty awesome photos!

Havent skiied in years - never really liked it - I'm willing to try snowboarding and tubing sounds like something you could do with a flask of brandy! :D

Sorry - should have said skier & boarders! Have fun at Hunter =
Snowmaking capital of the world - their ad, not mine. My ex & I used to try to go up every Thanksgiving, let me know how it goes, it's not a bad day trip from NJ.

Drewpy, where are you goin in Tahoe? Spent a week of my honeymoon out there - Squaw & Heavenly, great skiing, had a 10 foot dump couple days before we got there. Love it.

ScottyK can't promise you steep & deep, but I do have a house up in the PA mt's, couple bedrooms, big sleep loft, fireplace, 8 person hot tub on the deck. Elk Mt. is pretty good for PA skiing. Could be open to a SB weekend. PM if you're interested & we can discuss.

Lorie - what a great way to spend the holidays! Have fun.

Adding to my weekend to do list - drop off ski gear at shop....

Yep,

Whiteface opens sunday the 15th. I'm so there. Can't wait.

I have a non-holiday seasons pass which means no skiing over X-mas break ;-(, Presidents weekend (I'll be at Tremblant) or February break (I'll be diving in Playa Del Carmen (knock on wood)) so it works out great for me.

Although, I was thinking of switching to boarding.

I usually go up to Mt Snow.
This season it looks like Stratton.
No Rocky Mountains anytime soon. :(

A SB ski weekend sounds like a great idea.

Killington opened this past Monday. I live about a mile from the lifts. We got about 6 inches of snow last nite (more at summit). Good conditions so far.

Great time of year.....Ski & Dive on the same day!

Be sure to send me a pm if any of ya flatlanders head up this way.

Join me for a

I used to ski then I started boarding. I have not been in a few years but maybe I will try and go up to Hunter with mhl354 one day this year. Going to have to go digging in the closet of sporting goods I never get to use enough and find my boots and board.

LOL- That sounds good enough! I've been a blue trail kinda guy since I tore my ACL playing ice hockey. No more black diamonds or moguls for me. Let me get through the holidays and confirm that I'll still be up here in January, and we can figure something out.

Not a skier, but really want to try. Was going to go last winter, but it never happened. I need something to do all winter, besides watching the Rangers lose, and ice diving is just a little too cold for me!

Actually ingreevox's band plays some of the lodges in the winter too.

 OOH! OOH! OOH!

I would totally take you up on that, Jersey! I love Elk Mt, it's pretty good for Pa, and it's actually pretty similar to some of the smaller places in VT that I frequent and adore, like Middlebury Snowbowl. They have a mogul run there that is just da bomb, one run and my quads are totally shot.
Hot tub? You don't have to ask me twice. When do we ski? When do we ski?! :hyper:

Sue - you're in! We just need the snow!! I was up over the weekend - Friday was horrible rain, too miserable to even soak in the tub. Woke Sat to snow flurries, never saw the 2" predicted. At least let it get cold enough to start blowing snow.

Did anyone get to ski over the holiday? VTernovski - do tell about the Mt Tremblant tub...

Speaking of Mt. Tremblant and hot tubs - was there last Jan., going again this Jan.

52 below zero at the base - We stayed at the Fairmont which has a VERY large outdoor hot tub, an outdoor heated pool and a outdoor cool pool. What a trip.

Ski all day - finish a little early, mix a cocktail and sit in the hot tub watching skiers finish. No trip Mt. Trem trip would be complete with out making the trek over to the Le Shack.

Can't wait

Looks great! (But I think I should bring my husband) Nothing beats a day of pounding the slopes, then a soak, food, & love a REAL beer.

Not sure about 52 below temps though - aren't those around the time where you get off the gondola & they tell you to keep all skin covered to prevent freeze?

Come on snow!

Yes, it is exactly at that time. The thing about Tremblant is the weather is "extreme" one way or the other.

There are group of families (22 family's) that we go there with every January. I've been there in the 52 below stuff and there when we skied friday pouring rain saturday/sunday. It's a good thing they have a ton of off mountain activities.
