tech instructors Darcy Kiegan vs Stephane Jolicoeur

I am thinking about taking a tech course in Montreal. Since OFWF have thee higest chance of knowing theese instructors thats why I posted here. I was wondering if anybody had past experiences or comments about theese instructors since as they say the instructor is the most important part of the course.

Thats a tricky question, call the certifying agency and ask them if the instructor has ever been reported and for what. You can also ask other divers who may have been trained by the instructor your thinking of going with as well, but also keep in mind what worked for one person may not work for you, its a chance your going to have to take no matter who you choose. Make sure he agrees to a bail out agreement if you find his personality and training procedures bothers you as some instructor ive seen deviate. I would also like to say that a harsh instructor is not a sign of a bad instructor, I found instructors who demand the most of you, will make you the best you can be.

I took my normoxic and full trimix with Stephane, and can recommend him. He is excellent in the water, and has a positive and up-beat approach but is not afraid to tell it like it is when necessary.

Stephane was not as gear-strict as some instructors. He realizes there is often more than one way to skin a cat, and that people have often taken very different paths to arrive at an advanced level course. He received much of his technical training from JJ (so has a good handle on DIR and recommends it), and his instructor credentials came from what I believe is/was Canada's highest IANTD instructor trainer (Victor Williams).

He came highly recommended, and all the recommendations proved to be correct in my experience. If you would like any further information please feel free to PM me.

I have never taken any training with Stephane, but he did allow me to join him and a few of his students on a little Expedition to dive the U-853. I found him to be just as described by Marvintpa. If I were training out of Montreal, I would not hesitate in looking him up.
