Hi fellow divers,

I just got my hands on a Sony HDR-SR11 and would like to take it underwater to document my coral research off of Lizard Island, Australia. But first, I need an affordable underwater housing and some practice! I'm a college student working part-time to fund a true passion for photography and videography, and for the reason, my price range is limited to $800 or less.

I am currently interested in the Equinox HD6 but am open to any other housing.

Thank you very much for viewing and please give a second to comment, PM or email me at josephn5833 at sbcglobal.net

Any comment/suggestion/advice is welcomed!

Does your camera have a LAC port?

Unfortunately, the Sony SR11 does not have a LANC port. It has A/V Remote Connector/A/V OUT jack, USB jack, Active Interface Shoe and Interface Connector ports. I have no idea how underwater housings connect to this camcorder..

Thru the A/V Remote jack. Just not for $800...

Here's one option for $1300:

We have now added a new underwater housing designed to be used for the new Sony HDR-SR11 and HDR-SR12 camcorder models. This new housing has push button electronic controls that operate some camcorder functions by having just one wire plug from the housing microprocessor assembly into the new Sony A/V-R jack on the camcorder.

The TopDawg would work if you could find one used. But only the current and one previous model - anything older would have been LANC compatible. http://www.topdawgvideo.com/compatibility.htm - the older silver ones likely won't. New you're looking at $1300 also: http://www.dolphinscuba.com/Product...891_a_7c89_a_7c4756_a_7cPH_TOPDAWG_WIDESCREEN

Diversteve, thanks for the very helpful info. Although my price range is $800 or less, I understand that I might have to spend extra as I continue to search for a suitable housing. I was wondering, do you know whether or not the Amphibico Turtle would be compatible for my camcorder?

I would check with Amphibico - I'm not sure if this list is because these were the current models at the time the Turtle was announced or just the only ones supported due to an electronics change by Sony - they're sometimes do that. For example L&M doesn't support the newest Sony cameras since it's not compatible with their electronics.

If the Turtle does drive your camera ask them if they've tested Manual White Balance control compatibility also.

Were you to find a used older LANC housing somewhere - this might be an option also to convert it to your camera's connector - http://www.studio1productions.com/lanc-sa.htm but I haven't tested it. If the housing port lines up with your camera.
