View Full Version : Dive conditions in the keys in May?

I'm tentatively planning a trip to the keys in May. What are the dive conditions generally like in May/Early June?
Also, is 7 days too much time to spend in the keys diving?

May is a peak time for the Keys from a diving perspective. Water is warm, kids are still in school, lots of eagle rays came through last year at that time, just a good month overall.
See this link for last year's April/May photos:

My experience in May and June has been very good: but like anywhere else, conditions can vary a bit day-to-day. If you go to Conch Republic's website, they have a daily dive log and you can look at last year's posts for May and June and get a feel for the conditions. I am doing a dry tortugas trip out of Key West in late May so am personally confident enough about the conditions to get on a boat for 3 days (which would be a unhappy trip if marine conditions are terrible). You should be fine with your time frame too.

I have been diving in the keys in June. The water was warm and I dove in a skin. Even if you limit yourself to shallow dives, you can hit a new site virtually every dive for a week in Key Largo.

7 days diving in the Keys would not be too much time for me!
