Hi all,
This thread is to give you all a sneak peak of an iPhone application that I have developed and submitted to Apple (hopefully available Sunday May 6th, 2012).
It calculates SAC Rate, RMV, and total gas consumption as well as doubling as a very comprehensive tank database (72 tanks from 6 different manufacturers: Catallina, Faber, Luxfer, OMS, PST and Worthington.)
Please take a look at the screenshots below and let me know what you think and if there is interest in more applications I would be happy to continue to develop them.
Also this application will be selling for only 1 dollar.
Thank you,
Aaron

interesting.
will it work for litres/min?
bar?

Yep works in both imperial and metric and displays results as:
- RMV (L/min) and (cf/min)
- SAC RAte (bar/min) and (psi/min)
- Total Gas Consumption (L) and (cf)
You use your dive information and tank data and it will give you the results stated above.

the psi guys are in the minority.

It would be great if the tank database included the buoyancy when full and empty to aid adjusting weighting when changing to an unfamiliar tank. Buoyancy when empty or at 500 psi is particularly usefull. Thanks.

I'm going to be expanding the tank database in the first update which will hopefully come 1-2 weeks after the initial release. It will include the buoyancy characteristics and tank dimensions.
EDIT: Also thanks to sander8 for the feedback.

I plan on getting it - I've been working on gas management already, going through this with paper and calculator. What model iPhone and iOS are required? And what will be its official name in the app store?

Nice app - I'd like to see a screen that actually shows the calculations. I may help in their understating of what those numbers represent.
Like this: (((Starting tank Pressure- Ending tank pressure in PSI.) / Tank's pressure rating) * Tank's size in Cubic Feet) / (Dive Time * ((Average depth in feet + 33) ÷ 33)) = SAC

It will run on any device running iOS 5.0 and above and it's official name is: SAC Rate
Teamcasa that's a very good point! I will include a page in the next update specifying all the calculations.

Only suggestion would be to show more tanks on one page; maybe just show the Manufacturer, Al/Fe, size, and pressure on one line. Touch that to go to detailed info about dimensions, weight, bouyancy, etc.
If your data is fairly complete, I'd have to scroll through nearly 20 of these pages looking for the tank I wanted.

Heres a little taste of the update I've been working on for the more in-depth tank database... What happens is when you click a tank from the list it brings you to the detail page where all your tank characteristics are located.
I hope thats more of what you guys are looking for.

As far as android is concerned I have definitely thought about it and I'm going to try and build it for you android users ;) ..however it's going to take some extra time to get out there and hopefully (if I can get everything sorted out) It will be out by mid june
To all,
I would like to apologize, unfortunately SAC Rate will not be available tomorrow as it has yet to be reviewed by Apple. I will be sure to post on this thread the second it is available. Sorry for any inconvenience.

No problem. I will just use the iTunes link you provided instead.

Got it, would be nice to be able to add a second/third tank for deco gas or side mount.

TC are you looking for say a switch that would let you add multiples of the same tank or do you want to enter multiple tanks with different characteristics?

Yes. :)
I think both would be a great addition.

Multiple tanks with different characteristics.
For example- a recent dive was on double LP 85's with an AL 40 for deco. You would need to have a seperate PSI used number for each tank of course.

OK ill put something together tonight and post it here. Thanks for the suggestion.

Alright, so I set it up to handle doubles now. This assumes the tanks are connected. As far as deco is concerned a separate calculation should be performed to find the deco SAC Rate and RMV seeing as when doing a decompression stop the diver is more relaxed and if the calculations are done together it will skew the rates.

In a perfect world that would work, but since average depth is usually computed for the entire dive that would skew the numbers.
And good job on the doubles addition. :D

Hello everyone,
I would just like to thank those who have purchased SAC Rate. Also I would like to ask those of you who have bought the program and those who are planning on buying it to please leave a review on iTunes or even here on scubaboard.com if you wish. It only takes a minute and I would really appreciate the feedback as it helps me as a developer and it will help SAC Rate get a little more exposure.
Once again thank you for your time,
Aaron Elliott

Unfortunately the Android version requires a completely new program to be written and at the present time I don't have the resources to dive into it. I apologize to everyone who was hoping for an Android version. Later on in the year I may be able to sit down and write one but I can't make any promises that that will happen.
Sorry and thank you,
Aaron
