We went out with Jupiter Dive Center today for a 2-tanker. Great trip for us newbs. First time doing Florida drifts for both myself and my brother. Captain Mike, Sandy and Clay took care of us quite well... I was having some issues with sea sickness that the dramamine I've been taking all week didn't want to fix. Seas were about 4 feet as we went out and a smoother 2 foot-ish coming back in for the day.

We hit Scarface, Bonnie's, and I believe Capt Kurls on our first tank and Tunnels on the second dive. Vis was maybe 50-60 feet with a nice (1-2 kt???) current. Saw a whole mess of reef sharks, some turtles, a few goliath groupers and a bunch of other reef fish.

Going out again tomorrow. Hopefully less puking and more bottom time...

Bonine and Dramamine have the same active ingredient, which didn't work today. I'm going to try some other options tomorrow, though it's also supposed to be calmer seas so I won't know if it's the meds or the seas if I don't get sick.

2 to 4 forecast Thursday then subsiding to 2 to 3 in the evening. Even I go out in 2 to 4.

Likely 2ft or less Friday through the weekend.

Today was fantastic. No seasickness, bonus. We did "Captain Mikes" and "Tunnels" today. Again, some goliath grouper, a bunch of sharks, a Lion fish, and few barracuda and a bunch of other reef fishes. Oh, and turtles... fine diving all around. Vis was 100 feet on Captain Mikes and about 50-60 on Tunnels.

If you get a chance to go to Juno Ledge while you're here, grab it. JDC calls it Area 51 because it is shrouded in mystery. Actually it's 51 minutes from the dock. Just about midway between the Jupiter and Lake Worth (Palm Beach) inlets.

I have been using Bonine, ginger gum and the accupressure cuffs. Now, the real question is, do they really help or is it all in the head? I don't know, but I will not stop using them. I chew the gum if I start to feel sick after doing the other.

bonine and dramamine do not have the same ingredient. sorry. i work in a pharmacy. bonine is meclizine 25mg which makes you drowsy. the dramamine is dimenhydrinate which is "non drowsy". the reason everyone takes it, but it doesnt work for all people. everyone reacts to different types of medicines differently.

patients come to us all the time saying their perscription doesnt work, so we call the doctor too change the medicine to something in the same class. the actual medicine is different but it does the same thing.

bonine works for me, as long as i medicate at least the night before and the day of.

try bonine if you havent. and try seabands. it applies pressure to the wrist and reduces motion sickness. plus side is that it can be used while diving. if that doesnt work then try the scopalomine transderm patches. it is an rx only thing so you need to see a doctor.

also ginger helps. real ginger, not the fake crap.

I thought Bonine was less sedating than Dramamine? What may've led to the confusion over active ingredient is that both are antihistamines in terms of function, if memory serves, although different chemical agents.

I don't know what version of dramamine I have but both boxes (Dramamine and Bonine) say Meclizine 25 mg...
