Let's see your cave diving helmet, I'm considering a black diamond half dome helmet.
My question is how have you modified them to reduce buoyancy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use a kids bicycle helmet that I removed all the foam from. I used PVC on one side to attach a backup light and a then a clip on the other side to hold my primary light head. Plus a Go Pro mount on the front. I really only use it here on night dives to hold my light so my hands are 100% free to do video and photo. I'm not big on helmets honestly.
 
you can almost make out the toothpick in his mouth
 
I used to use on old lacrosse helmet with the foam rubber cut out of it. It fit very nicely over my hood and was very close to neutral bouancy. Most of the time it was used when I was using a DPV.
