Simply incredible, especially when you realize that there were years when the
ENTIRE event didn't do this much.
Obviously, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who gave to the
Compressor Challenge. That alone accounts for $27,000. We got started with
$5,000 in seed money from an Ocean Institute donor (who had already made a
sizeable donation). That was followed by another donor through the Maddie James
Foundation who came up with an $11,000 matching grant if we could come up with
the other $11,000. And incredibly, in a space of only 5 days we - no, make that
YOU - did. (When I called Karl with the good news, he literally turned to
someone in his office and said, "Stop looking at refurbished. We can get a new
one!!") So thank you, thank you, thank you.
Some of the Gold donors who made this possible include John Kitchens, Tom
Binkley, Wendy & Andrea Horwatt-Mitchell (in memory of Pete Duffin), Deep
Sea Supply, and the divers of PCH Scuba with an additional contribution. And we
can't forget our Silver donors, Edward Hsu and john Delaney who made an
additional donation to ensure that we matched the $11,000. Whew!!!
We also don't want to forget the Roger Hess Memorial Challenge subset of all
of this as e received a $1,000 from Phil Koehler in Roger's memory. So it was
quite an active finish, especially when you add in all of the Bronze levels
donors (23) who kept the momentum going.
We're still quite happy to accept additional donations but here's where we
are as of now.
