For underwater still photography do you prefer flood lights or strobe flash? And why?
My thinking is the flood also serves the purpose of giving you light to peer into nooks and crannies.

Both. Strobe for shooting pictures, flood for divelight and better focus. Flood lights don't work well for taking pictures as they're usually not bright enough and the strobe syncs with the camera to freeze the action and prevent blur from camera or subject motion. OTOH, if you want to do both still and video, a strong video light will double as a divelight and focus light.

Both. ;) but I dont have strobe yet. Instead I still use a standard divelight with a home made diffusor. Seems to work pretty good and is a cheap solution. The issue of not giving enough light is solved with the new LED lights with 2000+ lumen. (introduces a number of other issues though, like not having the right color of light etc.)
Check my pics and my current setup (http://mauricedeboer.blogspot.com)with a Canon G12 and a M850 divelight (1200lm chinese thing)
I still would like to have a strobe... but the budget won't allow for dive holidays and a fancy flash setup together, this year.
