Dacor extreme and Dacor Quantum....rebuild potential?

A friend of mine new to diving just got a good deal ( he thinks) on an old Dacor Extreme 1st stage and Quantum 2nds....$100.

I am no expert on servicing regs, or on old Dacors....

Now the local dive shop tells him it is impossible to rebuild, a year from now or whenever it may need it. As of now, it looks absolutely brand new.

Any ideas on how to get rebuild kits, or how to "engineer" a rebuild some day, without wasting more money than this is worth?

Maybe give them a call to see if they can help with the other parts for the first stage. I think for the second stage seats you can use the trident seats.

Contrary to the still existing myths, Most [and I say most] Dacor regulators can be repaired/refurbished. It is understandable that a dive shop not familiar with them, and without access to parts, would not want to spend valuable time on a line of regulators that it cannot easily support.
The main concern with buying obsolete gear is the supply of "hard" parts not usually associated with a regular service or overhaul. For the Extreme series, and this include Extreme, Extreme plus, Quantum and Enduro, the LP hoses are specific to that line of second stages. There is also the issue of the second stage orifice which in my opinion is too easy to damage through abuse/neglect. I think there will be a supply of second hand parts through eBay for quite a while. If your friends reg is in good condition, tell him to dive with it. They were great breathers even of they were a little too complicated Regards Scott

The low pressure hose issue IS an issue...this friend of mine wants to dive with us, and try to dive like us...meaning he wants to get DIRish....
He needs to be able to put a 7 foot hose on the primary of the Extreme, and the other hose for necklace reg "should be" a little shorter than it is, but it is not terrible as is....The reg already has an analog pressure guage and hose length well suited to being clipped to left waiste d ring :-)

So do you know anything of the issue of getting a 7 foot primary hose for this Extreme ?

Therefore, to install a standard hose you only need a 1/2 inch male to 3/8 inch female adapter. But please verify those sizes before ordering. Rather than purchase a non-standard hose and an adapter it may be less expensive to purchase a another second stage as long as your friend has a 3/8 LP port available on the first stage. Older Dacor regulators do not carry the price premium that older Scubapros or Aqualungs do. I am not a DIR diver, but from what I read they frown upon using non-standard hoses and adapters.

My suggestion is for your friend to check out ebay or place an ad in the WTB section. I have extra seconds (including a Dacor) that is not being used and I am sure other SB members have extra second stages they are not using.
