I will be visiting and staying in Playa de Carmen in August. I'm planning to dive with my 11 yr old daughter, who's Padi certified. Who's a reputable company to go with? This is my first time visiting and diving in Playa de Carmen.

Thanks

we used "tank ha" on our trip in april. email manny for details there. small shop but good people there. one thing to keep in mind.......no shops (that i know of) use a dock to board the dive boats. all entries were off the beach. so if its rough, the young girl might have some trouble. when the weather was good it was fine, but if you get some bad seas, you ight wanna be extra cautious. we had divers and gear falling all over the boat one day. it was not pleasant. but on good days, the diving was pretty good. lots of turtles !!!

I would recommend Jason at Fantasea Dive. You can read my review on Trip Advisor.

First of all, Thank you for the replies and help !!!!!! Are all the dives in Playa entry beach dives to get to the boat? I guess we have been spoiled from boat dives in Catalina, Ca.

Dam0,

I left a message and emailed fantasea several days ago and they have not responded. I understand its the summer and probably very busy. However, they should take the time to return emails or call backs on potential customers.

i am not aware of anyone who has a dock/peir. the beach entry/exit is only a problem in really rough conditions. just fyi......the boats we used had no platform for entry and exiting so it was a "fall over the side" entry. lol not sure if that is a concern for you or your daughter.

don't ya just hate that. i can't stand it when any company (not just dive ops) put up a web site with contact info and then don't answer emails. i know sometimes things get busy but if you are gonna give customers the option to use email, then make sure you have the resourses to deal with all of them. believe it or not, i emailed a shop in maui looking for rate info ect when we were trying to plan a trip there and i got an answer like 6 months later. wtf !!! i suppose any answer is better than none. lol
(sorry......rant)

I emailed several dive operators before my trip and was highly annoyed with the response rates, yet there a plenty of people touting for your business when your on the shore / dock.

I did get a response from Fantasea Dive before my trip immediately, the others fell short. Its a shame they're not following up with the op.

Thanks All !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for the response. This is like shopping for a car. They promise they will out performe the other scuba shop, Ok a little exaggerated I will go on trip advisor and read the ratings. Its funny, that before I got into diving I would jump into resort dives without asking questions. Now that my daughter and I are certified we are careful. SAFTEY FIRST, along with fun and adventures.

When we are in Playa, we dive with Alberto and Barbara from Pluto dive. They have taken our daughters when they were younger on their first Discovery Dive and I took my Cavern/intro to Cave with Alberto. A great shop, vey professionally run.

i did the same before going to Akumal in May, 2 shops failed to answer my questions instead they send me a C&P message that amongst other things had their website...aaah doh i found your website already, i just sent you an email to the contact info on that very website, the dive shop located on our resort has not replied all together so we opted to take a short 3 mile trip right down into Akumal to Akumal Dive Shop, they answered all my questions and always replied within the hour

its very simple to me, no communication means you don't need the business
