Couple disclaimers first. I did my dive with these guys last Monday. I was on vacation down there and didn't have a chance to write anything up yesterday. Also, I am by no means an advanced, expert or experienced diver, and this is my only dive with a company in Key West so I have nothing to really compare it to down there.

I was in Key West to vacation with my dad and my nephews who had driven down from NJ. I wanted to do something that was at least somewhat together for the dive so I found the dive/snorkel trips that Capts offers. The prices were VERY affordable, I paid $65 for the trip and tanks. I have all my own equipment however we stopped at Penecamp on the way down through the keys and I don’t think it would have been a good idea to leave two filled tanks in a black truck for 5 hours in South Florida.
The snorkel trip left out of the marina over near the A&B lobster house in the afternoon for a 30-40 minute trip out to the reef. This is the only part I didn’t like. This is 100% personal preference so I don’t even think it can be counted as a negative against them. The boat, which is “custom made for scuba diving” has all the tank storage in the center, between the benches in the back as opposed to the usual of having them along the side. Again, this was a personal thing and I just didn’t like having to leave my BC wedged in between everyone else’s stuff and loosely fitted to the tank. Just me, but I like having the extra room when it’s right here behind me on the bench. This also made it difficult as I was not the first one on the boat so it was very tough to get in there and have room to gear up.
Exiting the boat was from either side with a decent drop down to the water. I liked it. Haha, I guess I’m still a kid at heart. There was a Discover Scuba session going on and the DM that was taking them on their dive let us tag along in the bag. That was nice in that we could concentrate more on the reef and it’s inhabitants than navigating. For us new divers that’s always nice. They had a current line off the stern for reboarding and two ladders. The usual drill…nothing special there.

All of the people on the boat were extremely friendly and helpful and I would definitely recommend them to anyone heading down to KW and looking for a reef dive. Their morning dives are typically wreck dives so they do those as well, they are just not for snorkelers obviously.

I've posted a couple reviews of Capt's corner and they mirror your experience. My most recent trip was in 5-6' seas and Capt's Corner was the only boat on the water. I thought they would cancel because of the weather and because we only had a small group of 5, but they still took us out. It was a bit rough and we got soaked on the ride out, but it was a great dive.

I like the high entry as well. The jump in is more fun when it's a big splash. During the surface interval I like doing swan dives off the boat. They've got a good crew. I always dive when them in KW.

I had a similar experience. I was not a fan of the center tank bay. I was not overly impressed by them, but I cant say anything bad about them either.

I did a double dip on the Vandenberg with Cap't Corner in May: like the rest of you, I hated the center tank holder. However, the on-deck DM helped divers switch over tanks and tighten up the BC's as the divers were making final preparations to dive. I brought my own tanks and the trip cost was only $55!!! That's a fantastic price and much less expensive than other operators in the area. Everyone I interacted with from the shop was very nice and helpful. While I did not particularly like the boat configuration, I would still go out with Cap't's Corner again, given the great prices and nice folks.

LOL, for that price they could put the tanks in the head for all I'd care. I agree, didn't like the waffle maker tank holder thingy. If they ripped it out they could probably get another set of benches on

I agree Chris.

The prices up this way (Broward/Palm Beach counties) is in the $75 price range and that's if you use ALL you're own stuff. Add tanks to that and you're right at $100.

On a side note, I hope to get on a dive trip out of Key Largo sometime this summer, I'll have to hit you up down there. Largo isn't much farther for me than diving out of Boynton Beach.
