Just got back from Caymans and had a great visit. May go back soon, but looking at other places/suggestions that have great snorkeling off the beach.

We went to Caymans 9 times but after we found Aruba, No more Caymans and we are up to 29 trips to Aruba. Check out arubabobsnorkeling.com

Look at Sand Dollar or Den Laman on Bonaire. The diving is obviously outstanding on the house reef, Bari Reef, and so is the snorkeling north and south of the Bonaire Dive and Adventure pier. About 50 yds south is the "aquarium" with hundreds of fish inside a collapsed foundation and many other individuals and species around the outside. North of the pier just north of the platform that held the old Green Parrot restaurant at the shoreline in front of Sand Dollar is one of the few remaining, health and growing stands of elkhorn coral. It is very close to shore in shallow water and is just gorgeous in bright sunlight. Because of those coral, the locale attracts a growing variety of fish.

Roatan. Not yet been to Bonaire, but found the snorkeling there to be simply phenomenal, best in the Caribbean.

We stayed in what equates to a higher-end place there called Xbalanque, but there are accommodations in West Bay and West End that will suit just about anything other than a 4* or 5* lodging needs. Super cheap eating and drinking compared to my regular haunts as well.

Here are links to some pictures and a brief discussion on the SB snorkeling forum: Roatan Highlight and ScubaBoard discussion
