An Open letter to the NACD membership,
The NACD is a member organization that was founded in 1968 by a group of devoted individuals who realized the need for Science, Safety, Conservation, and Exploration. Unfortunately some members of the current board of directors, which should work for you, have lost sight of what the articles of incorporation require.
I am calling on membership to do the following to preserve the NACD. This board have violated Articles 4.08, 4.09, 4.12 and 5.07 as printed in the by-laws on the NACD's website, National Association For Cave Diving. It is the memberships right to call a special members meeting (article 3.13) and would only take a petition by less than 100 voting members to do so.
I propose the following:
· Return Curt Bowen and Bert Wilcher to our positions on the board since we were removed against the by-laws.
· Return Rob Neto to his position as conservation chair as his nomination and election to the board were against the by-laws.
· Offer up a change in the by-laws to include the following:
· President and Vice presidents positions be elected by the membership for a three year term. They could serve no more than two consecutive terms.
· Allow the board to budget for administrative support for all members of the board.
· All other board positions will be elected by the membership for a three year term and they can serve no more than two consecutive terms.
· Removal of section 4.05 preventing directors from having an interest in other agencies, as this is discriminatory.
· Structure of the board should include the following five positions.
· Executive director of finance committee
· Executive director of Science committee
· Executive director of Conservation committee
· Executive director of Training
· Executive director of communication
Any open position would be recommended to the president by the nominations committee and would only be allowed to serve until the next regularly scheduled membership meeting where a proper nomination and election could be held.
These request are not about any individual, rather about restoring the faith and confidence in the leadership of the NACD. I ask you to visit Cave Alliance to register your support of these measures.
