Hi -- I'm diving Raja Ampat over New Years. What's the likely water temperature? Can I dive with a 3mm shorty or do I need a thicker wet suite? Thank you for helping.

Generally in the 80s. 3mm suit is enough. Since you'll likely dive multiple times, I'd consider a fullsuit and the shorty, rather than just the shorty.

I would recommend a 1mm, 3mm or 5mm steamer ( full suit ).
Maybe even a 6.5 mm Semi-Dry.

It depends on your answer to these questions:

Do you get cold easily?

How many dives a day?

How long are your dives?

We were in WAKATOBI in late Oct. Water temp. around 82 degrees F, three 70+ min. dives a day. On a few dives the water temp. was 78 F.

I don't get cold easily. I had a 1mm and 3mm steamer. Also had a hood. I was OK, but I wish I had brought my 5mm as well.

Most of the DM were wearing the Scubapro Nova Scotia - 6.5 mm Semi-Dry suit.
