How are alcoholic beverages generally treated in the resort areas of Raja Ampat and Indonesian customs in general? Are there customs issues bringing in a bottle of gin for personal use?

I've never had a problem going into Bali. From Indonesia travel guide - Wikitravel

Customs in Indonesia is usually quite laid-back. You're allowed to bring in one liter of alcohol, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 gm of tobacco products, and a reasonable quantity of perfume. Amounts of money carried in excess of 100 million Rupiah, or the equivalent in other currencies, have to be declared upon arrival or departure. In addition to the obvious drugs and guns, importing pornography and fruit, plants, meat or fish is (technically) prohibited. Indonesia imposes the death penalty on those caught bringing in drugs.

no problem bringing duty free in Raja or most of Indonesia, actually i really recommend bringing duty free... a 1 litre bottle of spirits in Bali will cost about $80 at the store?!?!?! alcohol is not cheap in Indo! Sorong and Raja Ampat are not a problem. However, in certain areas like Ternate/Halmahera and other areas of Papua such as Kaimana or Manokwari then alcohol is not allowed...

Most people on our last trip into RA brought at least 1L of alcohol pp in. One time going into Bali people were worried about the 1L pp rule but they never even checked the bags! On the other hand they did mark the bags with alcohol going into Manado and opened them and checked them out!

You can bring it in to the boat, they won't check your bags :) But, you can't buy it locally.... (well, you can get bintang on the black market  )
I was going to say... you didn't offer me rum on that fun boat ride we had! haha, i could have used it to sleep!

Awww, MIKE....the boat did its BEST to rock you to sleep every night. What more could you ask??? LOL! I still have that video of you trying to play rummy-cube on my phone. Maybe it's time to download that!
